The Book of Mormon Broadway Musical

The Broadway hit musical ‘The Book of Mormon’ was imagined by ‘South Park’ and ‘Team America’ creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone as well as Robert Lopez. The satire musical has two young Mormon Latter Day Saints missionaries visit a village in Uganda in an attempt to share their beliefs with the local warlords.

Winning nine Tony Awards, The Book of Mormon is undeniably a huge hit, with a video release last month (May, 2011).

The Book of Mormon takes the the two missionaries through trials and tribulations in their overzealous intent to teach the local Ugandan people about Mormonism in the hopes of converting them.

For an upbeat, fun, satirical look at the idea’s, beliefs and faith in God, The Book of Mormon is guaranteed to entertain.

The Tree of Life by legendary director Terrence Malick, starring Brad Pitt, Sean Penn and Jessica Chastain won the top prize, best film, Palme D’or at the Cannes Film Festival which opens May 27, 2011 in the U.S.

Pitt plays a very strict father in a Texan household during the 1950′s. His wife is played by Jessica Chastain.

Although it is receiving mixed reviews, including audience boo’s and applause at the premiere, the subject matter of the film will likely be of interest to an audience interested in philosophy and spirituality as it delves into explorations of the birth of the cosmos, the world, time, infinity and our place within it. Symbolism in images of the beauty of the universe, from micro to macro, naturally reminds the viewer of our surreal wonders beyond our everyday concerns.

Taking an in the moment approach, Malick encouraged initial script promptings to develop into unscripted freedom allowing the actors to explore improvisation in context. Unrepeatable, special, true moments naturally emerged and were treasured in the film making. Scenes transformed spontaneously during filming providing fresh perspectives to make the final cut.

Brad Pitt is the face of this movie, as Terrence Mallick’s shyness does not lend him to be interested in promotion. His avoidance of interviews has long given him a mysterious persona. Instead of creating hype for the film, Malick prefers the work to speak for itself.

Temples that could roar with thunder. Statues that could speak. Chariots that levitated in the air. Sculptures that cried tears of blood.

We are sorry to say, Elizabeth Taylor has passed away today. She died of congestive heart failure at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in the West Hollywood / Beverly Hills area of Los Angeles.

We had an image of Elizabeth Taylor in our banner for this site for many months, an image from the movie Cleopatra depicting Isis. With strange timing, we took it down yesterday to make a change, as we sometimes do here. This morning, a friend called and asked if the banner had been changed then gave the news Elizabeth had passed away.

Elizabeth Taylor was born in London February 27, 1932. Elizabeth passed away on March 23, 2011 at the age of 79. She will be greatly missed, but certainly not forgotten. Elizabeth, became an iconic Hollywood star, and enjoyed a career as a glamorous Movie Queen archetype.

Enjoy the film, Cleopatra from 1963 starring Elizabeth Taylor as Cleopatra, Rex Harrison as Julius Caesar, and Richard Burton as Mark Antony. This historical film follows the Egyptian Queen Cleopatra’s trials and triumphs and her close relationship with Caesar.

Being Unique

Being Unique, should be a blessing, not a curse.

In a world where lives are destroyed and ended at the hands and words of bullying, awareness, understanding, compassion and loving kindness are what we need more of.

When I was young it was always the unique people that were interesting. It was always the people who had their own quirky behaviors that stood out, and that was a good thing… in other words, they had character. They had something about them that showed me their humanity, their vulnerabilities and their strengths. That resonated with me, as I saw those same qualities as true for myself.

Still to this day, I find those people most interesting. Those are the people I want to know more about. Those are the people who have stories, and uniqueness to share about who they are.

Imagine how much more wonderful life would be for everyone if we were celebrating this great festival of uniqueness of all the many individuals the Divine placed on this earth rather than damning others with our opinions and judgments.

We should be recognizing the beautiful tapestry all the people of the world make up, together. No two people are alike, nor should they be. It’s all a beautiful, evolving design that deserves dignity and deserves to be cherished for the few moments we have while on this earth. Everyone’s life is short.

All of us suffer. All of us. We all feel pain, and joy. Imagine bringing more joy into the world while you’re here. Everyone has someone who loves them, and feels pain when they see the person they love suffer. With the short time we have, what we do matters so much.

“Do unto others as you would have done unto you.”

Judgment is ingrained in us. It is our ego’s, but we can transcend it for the good of others and ourselves.

Make someone smile today, with real joy.
