It’s officially a New Moon in Taurus on Thursday May 9th, 2013 at 8:28 p.m. EDT.

This New Moon rings strong with renewal. The solar eclipse will create a ring of fire around the sun as the Moon passes between earth and our closest star. This signifies a wake-up-call in our lives. More information on this solar eclipse at the bottom of this article.

It’s a good time to ground yourself through your connection to nature. Talking about matters of financial security and ensuring you make the most of your spending now is important. Wasting money now is unwise. Create a plan. Spend according to budget. See this New Moon as marking a time to think about your finances.

As the New Moon grows we’re going to move further into understanding the importance of our responsibility in the material world. The consequences and benefits of exchanging money comes into focus. Transaction methods, interest payments, exchange rates, tax rates and fees all have rules that denote our bank account’s bottom lines. Paying closer attention to these details will do you well in the long run. Begin tracking your finances better if you’ve been lagging behind. Create a budget that ensures you have enough for unexpected expenses. Take the drivers seat of your financial picture.

This New Moon in Taurus is colored with ambition – responsible ambition. Don’t get sidetracked by desires that you know will just throw you off course. Your ambition to succeed will grow if you have your feet planted firmly on the ground.

Let the grains of sand on the beach and the blades of grass in your yard wriggle between your toes. Plant your ear to the ground to hear the hum of the earth. Pull down the branches of apple tree’s with their blooming flowers. Listen to the breeze rustle the new buds and leaves. Your soul needs these kinds of simple experiences. They matter. They will replenish your mind with new thoughts, inspired ideas and a sense of presence you need to step forward with stronger footing.

Meditate facing the morning sun. Then, turn around with the sun behind you to look at your shadow lay out before you, representing you in the presence of an enormous star. Let your mind wander to new realms as you merge your concept of the physical world with the play of light and shadow.

The crunch of the apple, that magical, mythic fruit – right here, right now, in your hand, in your mouth, nourishing you with the pleasure of flavor and nutrients as it becomes a part of your body. Your skin, kissed by the sun, caressed by the breeze. This is your life. In this moment, all else can be washed away. All worries, doubts, fears, plans, judgments, ideas, all gone for a moment while you experience the pleasure of this moment.

We are all designed to experience pleasure. So why are you resisting it? Why have you stood in your own way so many times and let misery and melancholy cloud your opportunity to experience your God given right to feel good.

When that New Moon passes in front of the Sun, that’s it… that’s the resistance to the light. It’s natural. It’s a part of life. It happens. But once those few moments pass, the light shines brighter than ever. Let yourself experience shedding that skin you wore in the past. Realize that dark shadow served its purpose. It had its time and place, but now it’s time to move on so the light can shine. You deserve life to be more than dark shadows and gloomy clouds.

Pleasure is designed into this complex, magical system we call life so you can tap into it at will. The fragrance of a spring flower, fingertips gently caressing your skin, the deep relaxation of a deep breath and a long exhale. That’s all you need right now to get in line with what the cosmos has on offer now.

All the responsibilities and necessities can take a five minute break while you get back on track and let yourself synchronize with the gifts the cosmos has waiting for you.

We are all artists in some way. We are all born into a creative world. To live requires creativity to continue like a string of notes of an improvised song always changing key. New players joining in to play the chorus, the bridge, the Major lift . . . . With Venus now in Mercury get your brain in tune with your creative desires. Arrange those flowers, mix those paints, explore your voice, do a raindance, go to the symphony, learn to play a few chords . . . Merge logic with creative inspiration now and you’ll awaken a part of you long dormant. Let go of the resistance.

It’s also a really good time to learn the names of tree’s, plants, flowers, birds and the like along with their properties. Have fun learning their correspondences for earth-magic as well.

Let Mars take you on a journey of heart pounding excitement as the New Moon grows and the Sun moves to the final stretch of the degrees of Taurus.

Think creative. Mind your money. If you don’t you’ll feel heavy. If you do, you’ll feel so much lighter and ready to move forward.

Honor your body and the earth now. Whatever you feel that connects you to that earth energy most, do it. Make responsible choices with your food that ensures you are compassionate to life and the world.

Burn incense. Smudge your house with white sage. Carry your favorite stones in your pocket. When you tune into the cosmos and let love rule, doors open. Tune into the magic of earth again now and bring that forward with you as you walk into your future. Do what you can to bridge heaven and earth in your own life, and more light will enter the world for others to enjoy and awaken to as well.

Jack Kerouac – American novelist, writer, poet, and artist. Father of the Beat movement.

The Beat Generation, that was a vision that we had, John Clellon Holmes and I, and Allen Ginsberg in an even wilder way, in the late forties, of a generation of crazy, illuminated hipsters suddenly rising and roaming America, serious, bumming and hitchhiking everywhere, ragged, beatific, beautiful in an ugly graceful new way–a vision gleaned from the way we had heard the word ‘beat’ spoken on streetcorners on Times Square and in the Village, in other cities in the downtown city night of postwar America–beat, meaning down and out but full of intense conviction–We’d even heard old 1910 Daddy Hipsters of the streets speak the word that way, with a melancholy sneer–It never meant juvenile delinquents, it meant characters of a special spirituality who didn’t gang up but were solitary Bartlebies staring out the dead wall window of our civilization–the subterraneans heroes who’d finally turned from the ‘freedom’ machine of the West and were taking drugs, digging bop, having flashes of insight, experiencing the ‘derangement of the senses,’ talking strange, being poor and glad, prophesying a new style for American culture, a new style (we thought), a new incantation–The same thing was almost going on in the postwar France of Sartre and Genet and what’s more we knew about it–But as to the actual existence of a Beat Generation, chances are it was really just an idea in our minds–We’d stay up 24 hours drinking cup after cup of black coffee, playing record after record of Wardell Gray, Lester Young, Dexter Gordon, Willie Jackson, Lennie Tristano and all the rest, talking madly about that holy new feeling out there in the streets- -We’d write stories about some strange beatific Negro hepcat saint with goatee hitchhiking across Iowa with taped up horn bringing the secret message of blowing to other coasts, other cities, like a veritable Walter the Penniless leading an invisible First Crusade- -We had our mystic heroes and wrote, nay sung novels about them, erected long poems celebrating the new ‘angels’ of the American underground–In actuality there was only a handful of real hip swinging cats and what there was vanished mightily swiftly during the Korean War when (and after) a sinister new kind of efficiency appeared in America, maybe it was the result of the universalization of Television and nothing else (the Polite Total Police Control of Dragnet’s ‘peace’ officers) but the beat characters after 1950 vanished into jails and madhouses, or were shamed into silent conformity, the generation itself was shortlived and small in number.” ~ Jack Kerouc

Used on food crops, the pesticides which contain neonicotinoids and produced by companies like Bayer, are considered to contribute to the swift decline of the honey bee population.

Colony Collapse Disorder is a serious threat to life on earth. Bees as pollinators are absolutely essential in maintaining the continuation of food chain.

Exerpt from the conversation between Bill Moyers and Joseph Campbell – The Power of Myth.

Moyers: Are some myths more or less true than others?

Campbell: They are true in different senses. Every mythology has to do with the wisdom of life as related to specific culture at a specific time. It integrates the individual into his society and the society into the field of nature. It unites the field of nature with my nature. It’s a hamonizing force. Our own theology, for example, is based on the idea of duality: good and evil, heaven and hell. And so our religions tend to be ethical in their accent. Sin and atonement. Right and wrong.

Moyers: The tension of opposites: love-hate, death-life.

Campbell: Ramakrishna once said that if all you think of are your sins, then you are a sinner. And when I read that, I thought of my boyhood, going to confession on Saturdays, meditating on all the little sins that I had committed during the week. Now I think one should go and say, “Bless me, Father, for I have been great, these are the good things I have done this week.” Identify your notion of yourself with the positive, rather than with the negative.

You see, religion is really a kind of second womb. It’s designed to bring this extremely complicated thing, which is a human being, to maturity, which means to be self-motivating, self-acting. But the idea of sin puts you in a servile condition throughout your life.

Moyers: But that’s not the Christian idea of creation and the Fall.

Campbell: I once heard a lecture by a wonderful old Zen philosopher Dr. D. T. Suzuki. He stood up with his hands slowly rubbing this side and said, “God against man. Man against God. Man against nature. Nature against man. Nature against God. God againste nature–very funny religion!”

Moyers: Well, I have often wondered, what would a member of a hunting tribe on the North American plains think, gazing up on Michelangelo’s creation?

Campbell: This is certainly not the god of other traditions. In the other mythologies, one puts oneself in accord with the world, with the mixture of good and evil. But in the religious system of the Near East, you identify with the good and fight against the evil. The biblical traditions of Judaism, Christianity and Islam all speak with derogation of the so-called nature religions.

The shift from a nature religion to a sociological religion makes it difficult for us to link back to nature. But actually all of those cultural symbols are perfectly susceptible to interpretation in terms of the psychological and cosmological systems, if you choose to look at them that way.

Every religion is true one way or another. It is true when understood metaphorically. But when it gets stuck to its own metaphors interpreting them as facts, then you are in trouble.

Moyers: What is the metaphor?

Campbell: A metaphor is an image that suggests something else. For instance, if I say to a person, “You are a nut,” I’m not suggesting that I think the person is literally a nut. “Nut” is a metaphor. The reference of the metaphor in religious traditions is to something transcendent that is not literally any thing. If you think that the metaphor is itself the reference, it would be like going to a restaurant, asking for the menu, seeing beefsteak written there, and starting to eat the menu.

For example, Jesus ascended to heaven. The denotation would seem to be that somebody ascended to the sky. That’s literally what is being said. But if that were really the meaning of the message, then we have to throw it away, because there would have been no such place for Jesus literally to go. We know that Jesus could not have ascended to heaven because there is no physical heaven anywhere in the universe. Even ascending at the speed of light, Jesus would still be in the galaxy. Astronomy and physics have simply eliminated that as a literal, physical possibility. But if you read “Jesus ascend to heaven” in terms of its metaphoric connotation, you see that he has gone inward–not into outer space but into inward space, to the place from which all being comes, into the consciousness that is the source of all things, the kingdom of heaven within. The images are outward, but their reflection is inward. The point is that we should ascend with him by going inward. It is a metaphor of returning to the source, alpha and omega, of leaving the fixation on the body behind and going to the body’s dynamic source.

Moyers: Aren’t you undermining of the great traditional doctrines of the classic Christian faith–that the burial and the resurrection of Jesus prefigures our own?

Campbell: That would be a mistake in the reading of the symbol. That is reading the words in terms of prose instead of in terms of poetry, reading the metaphor in terms of the denotation instead of the connotation.

Moyers: And poetry gets to the unseen reality.

Campbell: The which is beyond even the concept of reality, that which transcends all thought. The myth puts you there all the time, gives you a line to connect with that mystery which you are.

Shakespeare said that art is a mirror held up to nature. And that’s what it is. The nature is your nature, and all of these wonderful poetic images of mythology are referring to something in you. When your mind is the world of your requirements and your energies and your structure and your possibilities that meets the outer world. And the outer world is the field of your incarnation. That where you are. You’ve got to keep both going. An Novalis said, “The seat of the soul is there where the inner and outer worlds meet.”

Moyers: So the story of Jesus ascending to heaven is a message in a bottle from a shore someone has visited before.

Campbell: That’s right–Jesus did. Now, according to the normal way of thinking about the Christian religion, we cannot identify with Jesus, we have to imitate Jesus. To say, “I and the Father are one,” as Jesus said, is blasphemy for us. However, in the Thomas gospel that was dug up in Egypt some forty years ago, Jesus says, “He who drinks from my mouth will become as I am, and I shall be he.” Now, that is exactly Buddhism. We are all manifestations of Buddha consciousness, or Christ consciousness, only we don’t know it. The word “Buddha” means”the one who waked up.” We are all to do that–to wake up to the Christ or Buddha consciousness within us. This is blasphemy in the normal way of Christian thinking, but it is the very essence of Christian Gnosticism and of the Thomas gospel.

It’s officially a Full Moon in Scorpio on Thursday, April 25, 2013 at 3:56 p.m. EDT.

This Full Moon, also known as the ‘Pink moon’ is met with a lunar eclipse. The earth casts a shadow on the moon as it stands between the Sun and the Moon. However, we won’t see it here in the western world as it will still be daylight when it happens. See the link at bottom of this article for the scientific technicalities.

Although the visual display of the lunar eclipse will be “underwhelming,” we still get to enjoy the astrological significance on a more esoteric level.

There are angels in the world; they come in many forms and at the most opportune moments. Miracle workers live and breathe among us. You may find yourself truly blessed.

It’s quite possible that someone will help you in a significant way now. The help could be more than you dreamed possible and there’s a lot of heart in it. We attract important transitions into our lives now that can take us to the next level.

This year has been full of big changes for all of us; surely you’ve noticed. This eclipse brings us a karmic transformation that helps us find deeper understanding of ourselves. It’s a good idea to work on clearing your karma. Truly wishing others happiness helps you find more of your own.

If you need to transform your money situation, other people may definitely be able to help you out as part of lifting your karma.

To make a shift in your life now, look for the clues around you. You’ll find the answers hidden in riddles. Try reading other people’s behavior to get deeper understanding into the influences around you. Journal it. Examine it. Ponder it. Even the subtlety of someones eyes can take you to other worlds.

Earlier this week and leading up to the Full Moon you may also notice many occurrences of the number 11 popping up- seemingly at random but definitely with a more synchronistic purpose. Keep mental note of what you were thinking or saying at the moment you see the number 11 and piece together the clues. There is meaning behind the mystery. Some of you may find another number keeps repeating that is significant to you.

The meaning of inner beauty awakens now; beauty in the earth, our bodies and in our hearts and spirits. Life blossoming all around us in Spring is a testament to this. There is so much beauty in the world, and inside humanity, yet so many hide behind masks and away from their own reflection.

Venus departs from its caress of the Sun and stands across the sky from the Full Moon in Scorpio. Now we are faced with seeing ourselves much more deeply, for what we are. The perceptions we project onto others, is the very part of ourselves we need to resolve.

Neptune pleasantly takes us to the next level with this Full Moon. Life is love. Life is mystical. Candle magic, and a bath of rose geranium, sounds perfect. Relax and peer into the waters of your own soul. Scorpio will take you deep into the hidden realms.

Awakening requires inner reflection. It’s often hard for people to admit to themselves the truth of who they are. It’s easier to blame others “out there” for life’s circumstances. Denial is a common human trait. Taking a look in the mirror and facing yourself and accepting personal responsibility makes life real. The shadow side of ourselves needs to be seen. It grounds you and will provide you with a strong stepping stone of a balanced understanding. The stream of life runs both ways. There are two sides to the river.

Many of you may notice shadows are artfully interesting lately. Tree branches, leaves, and the shadow of your beloved pet may be catching your eye as light and dark do their dance. Remember, shadows exist because of the light. The roots of shadows reside in the manifestation of light.

Emotions of jealousy and envy may surround some of you, or if you notice yourself having a nasty attitude, it’s time to reassess how you are projecting yourself into the world and how that is reflected back to you by what you receive.

Just as it’s not easy to admit our own faults, it is often just as difficult for us to admit, or realize, how beautiful we are. Life is beautiful. All the errors, pain and affliction holds within it the key to the beauty of the heart. Love and compassion join this Full Moon to support us in our time of need.

Mars moves in to join the Sun and stands across from the Moon infusing us with renewed energy, willpower. By feeling through the emotions to clear away our self doubts we can become more inspired. From there, we can shed new light on our life and realize the direction that we can take for our betterment.

Those of you who focus on spirituality this week and weekend will be blessed with renewed faith in life.

If you give generosity and kindness from your heart it will return to you.

You start out dead and get that out of the way. Then you wake up in an old people’s home feeling better every day. You get kicked out for being too healthy, go collect your pension, and then when you start work, you get a gold watch and a party on your first day. You work for 40 years until you’re young enough to enjoy your retirement. You party, drink alcohol, and are generally promiscuous, then you are ready for high school. You then go to primary school, you become a kid, you play. You have no responsibilities, you become a baby until you are born. And then you spend your last 9 months floating in luxurious spa-like conditions with central heating and room service on tap, larger quarters every day and then Voila! You finish off as an orgasm!”

Find out the reason that commands you to write; see whether it has spread its roots into the very depths of your heart; confess to yourself whether you would have to die if you were forbidden to write.

This most of all: ask yourself in the most silent hour of your night: must I write? Dig into yourself for a deep answer. And if this answer rings out in assent, if you meet this solemn question with a strong, simple “I must,” then build your life in accordance with this necessity; your whole life, even into its humblest and most indifferent hour, must become a sign and witness to this impulse. Then come close to Nature. Then, as if no one had ever tried before, try to say what you see and feel and love and lose…

…Describe your sorrows and desires, the thoughts that pass through your mind and your belief in some kind of beauty – describe all these with heartfelt, silent, humble sincerity and, when you express yourself, use the Things around you, the images from your dreams, and the objects that you remember. If your everyday life seems poor, don’t blame it; blame yourself; admit to yourself that you are not enough of a poet to call forth its riches; because for the creator there is not poverty and no poor, indifferent place. And even if you found yourself in some prison, whose walls let in none of the world’s sounds – wouldn’t you still have your childhood, that jewel beyond all price, that treasure house of memories? Turn your attentions to it. Try to raise up the sunken feelings of this enormous past; your personality will grow stronger, your solitude will expand and become a place where you can live in the twilight, where the noise of other people passes by, far in the distance. – And if out of this turning-within, out of this immersion in your own world, poems come, then you will not think of asking anyone whether they are good or not. Nor will you try to interest magazines in these works: for you will see them as your dear natural possession, a piece of your life, a voice from it. A work of art is good if it has arisen out of necessity. That is the only way one can judge it.”

This is a really potent Spring. A lot of forces are merging in Aries. The desire to find your inspiration is calling you to step up to the plate. There is a fire burning inside of you, inspiring you to action.

Don’t be surprised if a great idea falls into your lap that helps you take steps towards a renewed sense of purpose. You may also find someone asks you to do something important that requires you to step outside your comfort zone, that will allow you to finally achieve something you’ve long desired. You’ve got life pulsing in your veins, so use it while you’ve got it.

This New Moon in Aries has love fused to our personal lives. Relationships reach far beyond the superficial and mechanical objects of desire, into a flutter of alchemical proportions. The magic between Mars and Venus now makes everything about life an art. You’ll feel it in other people, in the blooms of flowers, the newly forming buds. Your creativity will rush to be poured out into the world.

All this energy can be revitalizing for many of us. However, too many people are always doing something to fill up every ounce of their time. From sunrise to midnight, too many are bombarding themselves with external stimulation to the point of numbness.

You’ve got to consider switching up the pattern once in awhile, or life becomes one predictable bore after another. When you pause for a while, and do nothing, you get a renewed sense of purpose that helps you resume life with a new energy. Winter and Spring symbolize the importance of this transition in our lives.

Giving yourself a break from the same routine will allow your mind to think outside the box and become more creative and inspired. If you’re running in circles like most people, and are always preoccupied with filling up your time with this, that and the other, you’re missing out. The empty glass has more options available than one already full. If your mind is always on the task at hand you are left with little room for an inflow of new ideas and inspirations.

Now, Venus disarms Mars by merging her energy with his. The result is a more creative moment with doors open to inspiration. It is the silence before the storm; the composure before entering into the battlefield. The receptive quality is coupled with the underlying active principle ready to burst onto the scene.

Arts, crafts, all that is beautiful is inspired by this New Moon. This is a new beginning. The Moon aligns with the Sun which has just recently entered the Astrological New Year at the Spring Equinox.

Finances go through a transition near the end of the week. How are your finances? Have you been spring cleaning money matters so you have renewed clarity in that area of your life? It’s tax season. Don’t expect to win the lottery. It’s better to count on your instincts than daydreams. To feel like you are getting what you want, and heading in the ideal direction financially, you have to make the declaration with an authoritative stance. You may feel like you have to climb down the mountain a bit, to get a better view of what’s ahead.

The most fortunate ideas come from pondering, daydreaming, reading and participating in such reflective practices like yoga and meditation now. Take notes and share with like-minded individuals. Important realizations can be had now.

Take a night of the week to not be distracted by gadgets, games, the internet, TV. Force yourself to get creative if you are hesitant to take that first step. I guarantee, once you get started, your creative impulse will build upon itself until you’re bursting with ideas. Get in the drivers seat and turn on the ignition.

We are all at various stages of our personal evolution. This is a time to begin a new stage with anticipation of the best we can bring forth into the world. Recognizing your imperfections leads to a state of natural refinement. Plants and flowers lean towards the light. If there is shade they will reach around to get a glimpse. That’s refinement. Life is that desire to seek, grow, and experience pleasure.

It’s also a good time to look at your body in a new way. Instead of judging your body, recognize your flaws as personal, unique character traits that are part of a spiritual design, as sacred as the cosmos. Love your body, by not only respecting it with your thoughts, but also with your actions. Treat yourself well and honor your temple.

The burdens of life come in many forms, but free will and desire lead us to overcome the obstacles. With smarts and willingness you can make the right choices to help move yourself, and influence others into a brighter future. The Sun is reaching towards its climax. The moon is in his embrace now. We’re all riding this wave together. Let your senses wake up to the subtleties often forgotten and drowned out by the racket you put yourself through.

Just enjoy it. It’s time to get outside and soak up the rays.

“Being powerful is like being a lady. If you have to tell people you are, you aren’t.”

“It used to be about trying to do something. Now it’s about trying to be someone.”

“If you just set out to be liked, you will be prepared to compromise on anything at anytime, and would achieve nothing. ”

“Look at a day when you are supremely satisfied at the end. It’s not a day when you lounge around doing nothing; it’s a day you’ve had everything to do and you’ve done it.”

“I do not know anyone who has gotten to the top without hard work. That is the recipe. It will not always get you to the top, but it will get you pretty near.”

“Watch your thoughts for they become words.
Watch your words for they become actions.
Watch your actions for they become habits.
Watch your habits for they become your character.
And watch your character for it becomes your destiny.
What we think, we become.
My father always said that… and I think I am fine.”

To make others less happy is a crime. To make ourselves unhappy is where all crime starts. We must try to contribute joy to the world. That is true no matter what our problems, our health, our circumstances. We must try. I didn’t always know this and am happy I lived long enough to find out.”

“I was born inside the movie of my life. The visuals were before me, the audio surrounded me, the plot unfolded inevitably but not necessarily. I don’t remember how I got into the movie, but it continues to entertain me.”

“Because we are human, because we are bound by gravity and the limitations of our bodies, because we live in a world where the news is often bad and the prospects disturbing, there is a need for another world somewhere, a world where Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers live.”

“Life always has an unhappy ending, but you can have a lot of fun along the way, and everything doesn’t have to be dripping in deep significance.”
