A perplexing view of Taurus.

I enjoyed a great evening out last night and when arriving at a friends house there was a book on Astrology by Sylvia Browne "Astrology through a Psychics eyes." I picked it up for entertainment purposes only just to see what was happening within the pages. I am still this morning wondering what exactly is the introduction to my sign, Taurus, all about according to Sylvia.

Here's the excerpt that had me a bit shocked, confused and certainly after a long night out on the town enjoying music dancing and soaked from a great walk in the rain, laughing quite hysterically. With each line I read out loud to my friend as we were drying off eating our much needed night snack, the laughter increased in intensity and we certainly had eyebrows raised.

Have you read any other astrology books? Well, if so, then you know beyond a shadow of a doubt that there is always one sign that the astrologer does not like. That's because when you read about the various signs, bot the positive and negative aspects are discussed. But then you get to one particular sign, and you realize that there seems to be nothing but negative traits associated with it. Well, I'm going to have to be very tolerant with the sign of Taurus, and I've got to be kind about this... God, I have to be kind!

Taurus people are boring. I'm trying to be kind, but every Taurus that I have ever known (and I mean a fully aspected Taurus) has a tendence towards stupidity. yet I do not think they are actually that dumb, but they act that way. They will often reply to questions with "Huh?" and a puzzled look. I think this is to make someone come on more. You will want to walk up and say "Do you hear me? Are you listening? Watch my lips."

Everyone who has a Taurus friend has a karmic debt! Even when you say, "Get away," they hand on to your leg. you can beat them with a stick, and they say, "I love you anyway." An Aries out to work with a Taurus, for God's sake, because they've got enough patience. The Aries would repeat things 55 times, and the Taurus would say, "I finally get it," which would make the Aries say, "Oh, how wonderful!"

Taureans usually have very high-falutin' speech. They usually talk like this: "The cosmic influences of the seminal fluid, in the great beyond of the ad infinitum, are coming together in the heated vortex within." You then say, "Pardon me, but I do not understand a thing you're saying." In this instance, they just asked you to have sex, without your even knowing it!

It may be that my friend and I were destined for a great laugh after an enjoyable evening. When I had opened the book it opened directly at the page of Taurus, synchronistically my sign, so logically a good choice to read a bit on. My friend, a Capricorn, seemed to have a standard intro to that sign. Naturally, we were a bit astonished by Sylvia's take on Taurus.

It sounds to me like she most likely has a Taurian ex-boyfriend and now every Taurus is grouped into the dummy category! Just another example of a published author who had managed to twist their interpretation to suit a misplaced emotional state or "hard done to" mind set. Write about relationships if that's what it's about, don't confuse the issue. Luckily she didn't seize on some other aspect of the guy like his hair color, otherwise maybe all redheads would be stupid!

This is precisely what I thought could be a possibility for her resentment - an ex she's passive aggressively venting at. It certainly is quite a strange interpretation of Taurus qualities

Taureans BORING?! More like easily bored. That is because they are usually vastly superior in intellect to those around them. The "huh?" and puzzled look is because they were only pretending to listen to the mindless drivel; being kindhearted, they don't want to hurt anyone's feelings by outright ignoring them. And don't EVER put an Aries and a Taurus together to get any work done. They will not be able to get beyond butting heads, er I mean discussing how to best complete the task. Taurus likes to jump right in and muscle their way through the job; Aries, being procrastinators, er I mean planners, would rather start with some visualization and see where that takes them..... = }

Well, I was born on April 20 which is on the cusp of Aries and Taurus. I must admit that there have been some forces to reconcile but I feel pretty alright about it. The notion that all people fall into one of twelve cut and dried categories is quite absurd to me anyway. I don't discredit astrology, just the simpleton version which puts in it a quick nutshell for people who are not so interested in elaboration anyway. I've often run into this with Tarot reading and it's what made me not read for others very often. I would get the classic "never mind all that, is everything going to be okay or what?" Sometimes it's just not as simple as that.

I like a general overview that the sun sign demonstrates in common western astrology, but what I love so much of is the natal chart. One of my friends is big on knowing what aspects are happening now to compare to the birth chart to see how things are being affected with more precision. I agree, elaboration is key. I can see your point with tarot reading as well, often people want to hear what they want to hear and don't care much for any depth, but then there's so much one misses out on with such complexities that can be unveiled. The potentials for elaboration can be quite complex which I think could do well for many if they took the time to listen.

Its an ongoing bug-bear of mine that sun-sign astrology is all that people know. They therefore make judgement on astrology based on those 12 little summaries printed in the paper each day (and probably written by the tea-boy during his lunch break going by some of them...).

When you tell people that astrology doesn't pigeon hole you in with 1/12th the entire population: but that you are a unique individual defined by your natal chart, and if you really want to test the effectiveness or otherwise of astrology, you must start there.... you see that glazed look appear...

I am starting to believe that the general population have been so brainwashed by an education biased entirely toward the scientific end of the spectrum, that they are unable to see outside that particular box. Overlay on this the rift between any spiritual ideal and the economic expectation of a consumerist society, and we are left with a majority unable to think for themselves, and certainly unwilling to go down a path seen as superstition led / different from that of their peers / or offering little 'value' (in the purely economic sense).

How did I get so far off topic....????

All I wanted to say, was that as you both suggest, astrology is all too often seen as little more than a curiosity rather than being openly adopted as the incredibly self empowering tool that it undoubtedly is.
