Any of you folks ever done the Qigong standing meditation? I have been doing it for a few days and it is definitly great for the body and it`s energetics...I can feel the qi in my hands and feet quite plainly...also been slowing down my respiration while in meditation for Reiki and this slowing of respiration has made me more aware of my dan tien in a shorter period of time than three months of another technique. I could feel a great amount of heat all the way through to my back and kidneys...amazing...I guess I`m down to about 6 or 7 breaths a minute...just wondering if anyone else does this with respiration in meditation......:p

I have never been able to get into the flow of walking medtitation, but standing meditation I've done at the beginning and end of basic tai chi movements like lifting the sky, and carrying the moon. I particularly like abdominal breathing to bring me back to my centre. There is a movement in tai chi which is very basic, but I don't recall the name - simply it is raising the arms towards the sky starting from the sides working the arms upward slowly out to the sides. Very basic in action, but very powerful in the building of energy. The energy feels like tingling, static electricity especially noticeable when near the top of the movement.

I haven't done it in quite some time, but now you've inspired me to, and I've pulled a great book out I have enjoyed reading over the years called The Art of Chi Kung.

    Hi Celtaur,

Once i incorporated abdominal breathing into my Reiki meditation the sensations of heat and a feeling of solid mass in my lower hara, became noticeable after a couple of sessions. I know a few people that use Hatsurei ho to develop energy sensitivities, and I was one of them, but when one incorporates a 6 or 7 bpm abdominal breathing element into this meditation it takes on a whole new level in defining the dan tian...at least for me this is what happened....I`m gonna have a look for that book you mentioned Celtaur,......The ones I`m reading are..."The Way Of Qigong"..by Kenneth S. Cohen..and "Introduction To Chi Kung" ...by...David Carradine and David Nakahara.....

    Hi RJ,

Since we both are able to feel energy, can you tell me the difference in how it feels compared to Reiki or Tai Chi? As you know, I'm always loving to experience different energies and how they compare, so as an intersted student, I'd love to hear your opinion.

    Hi Katie..

    Um...I`ve never thought about a comparison..but here goes anyway....:p
When I do standing meditation, the energy I feel in my palms, and sometimes crawling around my arms, buzzes in a certain pattern that makes me think that it`s my personal qi or possibly jing..can`t say i have enough experience with energies to differentiate, so of course this is all intuitive in interpretation....It has a predictable pattern in the physical sensations I realize from it, or the frequency it buzzes at, for lack of better terms.
On the other hand when working in Reiki, whether self treating , or treating others in person, or at distance, physical sensations change in strength and frequency...I sometimes feel two differing frequencies are at work at the same time..ya know ..a very slow pulsation over, or along with, a higher frequency buzz...I feel that Reiki can become such a clear energy( high frequency) , that we can`t feel it at times, even though it`s still flowing! I keep using the word frequency cause I have an electronics/electrical background....for clarity, and folks who aren`t familiar with Reiki, i`m just talking about the tingling most Reiki people feel in their hands.........

I have done the standing meditation over the last number of years, but sparingly...Yes, I do notice a remarkable flow of chi in the hands and feet, but the increase of flow and intensity has to do with cultivation of ching, and its subsequent sublimation in the body...the qi and shen are naturally transformed as well because they all work in tandem, and when one is damaged so are the others. Have you tried doing the meditation in the traditional horse stance? This will open the area around the perenium a little more and release energy from the base of the spine (first chakra)....

    Hi fulcanelli:

Could you describe ching and shen for me. I have tried the horse stance, it is exhausting on my quads, however I believe in a short period the body would adapt to the will.

    Hey Celtaur...
Ching, Qi, and Shen are known as the Three Treasures in Qigong, and the practicing student must try to cultivate these in order to achieve higher levels
    of consciousness and overall helath.
Ching pertains to such substances as blood and semen, which are directly associated with sex and sexual energy. The dissapation of ching is what essentially leads to death, and this can happen through excessive sex, overeating, binge drinking, etc...
When the ching is stored and sublimated in the body one regains their vigor
and strength, which in turn helps develop the qi (chi) and shen (spirit).
Shen is a harder term to define, but it can said that the development of Shen
comes from the cultivation of ching and qi...in other words, working on qi and ching leads to greater spiritual insight. A great book on this subject is the 'Jade Emperor's Mind Seal Classic' by Stuart Alve Olsen...
I hope this helps you some...
