There are many books that do help the seeker to discover their past lives. And it does require much discipline living the ordinary 9-5 way of life really does not help. You are more likely to receive the opposite effect and become someone else.
To find someone that would be able to say "hey, this is what a past life of yours was like. Really you do have to take them at face value. Especially after you have spent a certain amount of money for them to tell you who you were in some past life. Most people usually go for a 2nd opinion to someone else because of some doubt and reassurance is needed, and after receiving a different answer then your left in the grey cloud of suspicion and more doubt. That's why I said one of the many paths to self discovery understanding who you were in the past life. It would require a lot of meditation and self sacrifice and self discipline to venture that narrow path to self realization. For this path is a path one seeks them self on that path the divine forces strip away who you think you are as you face who you really are. Because you will know its an honest answer because it's coming form you.
Ashwini has a really good point when she stated

this is very true and I agree. My understanding of the spiritual path and the path to self discovery whether it be past life or not is a solitary path this may be my independent way of life speaking but I'm honest in all of my opinions. The people you meet in this life and share time may it be family members, teachers, friends or foe could very well be people you had some kind of karmic relationship in a past life. We are all here to share and experience a life for all are actions cause some kind of reaction as the ripples of time pass through from one life to the next.
