The 13th sign of the Zodiac
I originally had this in a blog and because we are currently in this sign I decided it may be a good idea to add to an astrology thread.
The constellation, Ophiuchus, (30 Nov to 17 Dec) has been known since ancient times, and is better known as Serpentarius, the Serpent Holder. It is included in the list of 48 constellations described by Ptolemy. Ophiuchus is depicted as a man handling a serpent; his body dividing the large snake into two parts, giving way to the symbol used today as an Asclepius - the medical staff. Astrologers have not included Ophiuchus in the wheel of Astrological signs because the Sun spends only about nineteen days in this 13th sign of the Mazzaroth. Not that there wasn't a 13th sign in the Heavens, but as far as Astrologers were concerned, the Sun traveled from the constellation 'Scorpius' and then proceeded directly into the sign of Sagittarius. In reality, this was not the case. The Sun, for 19 days of the year, travels through the star constellation 'Ophiuchus' before entering Sagittarius from Scorpius. Thus The sign of Ophiuchus is patterned after the original 'Serpent Holder', Enki, a Sumerian god.
The signs of the Zodiac are for the most part, the highway, or path on which the Sun takes it's yearly journey across the heavens - as it would appear to Earthlings. These signs are actually star constellations occupying space in which the Sun appears to travels in an earth year. The original twelve signs/constellations: Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius, and Pisces are quite familiar to everyone, however, the thirteenth sign and constellation, [Ophiuchus], is in fact, not well known. To acknowledge a 13th sign now would seem awkward for astrologers, who like the tidiness of 12 signs that rule over the 12 houses of the Zodiac. The heavens are alive and they do change after a few thousand years and the astrologer who wants to maintain accuracy must change along with the signs in the heavens.
The constellation of Ophiuchus is the only sign of the Zodiac which is linked to a real man. This man lived in ancient Egypt around the 27th century BCE, and his name was Imhotep. Many of the same attributes of Imhotep can also be found in the Biblical Hebrew man Joseph, son of Jacob. Imhotep is credited with many accomplishments including the knowledge and use of medicine. It is said of Imhotep that he brought the art of healing to mankind. The symbol of a serpent, which is still widely used today to represent the medical profession, was used to represent Imhotep.
I found this coincident very interesting, Ophiuchus the Serpent Bearer (30 Nov to 17 Dec) Nostradamus’s birthday falls on December 14th, Michel Nostradamus was a 16th-century French physician and astrologer.
What exactly does this mean for people that are born under this 13th sign? Am I not really a Sagittarius? December 1st would be a scorpio-Ophiuchus cusp, correct?
I don't see how people can just say "oh lets ignore that one." It reminds me of what they do in buildings, numbering floor 13 as 14... It is like deluding the truth just becacuse it is easier.
Ophiuchus is a Sun-sign, from what I understand the Moon and planets are all seen against the stars of Ophiuchus. From what I have read on this 13th astrological sign is that its not in the tropical zodiac. The Tropical Zodiac is an inaccurate oversimplification of the heavens dating from a time when we did not have telescopes or computers. I have opened my mind to this (12 apostles + one spiritual master Jesus = 13. Jesus was a healer. I have seen some of the new bibles illustrating men/saints with a serpent by their side.
As for the 13 its more or less a superstition (13 bad luck, Friday the 13th bad luck day ect ) and for some reason it became a building code from what I understand. I'm really not sure why maybe someone can help fill in this blank. I once lived in a building that had 13 floors though it was numbered 12, 14. I thought it was funny because I always called it my 13 story apartment building great times their though.

The 13th Zodiac Sign
There are many types of astrology. Tropical, Sidereal, Actual, Chinese, Lunar, Vedic, Kabbalistic, etc. Use Actual for the 13 zodiac signs. The 13 signs can be put into a chart dividing it into the 13 houses, not equal houses, but in accordance with the degrees they actually spend in that sign.
I'm wondering what would Ophiuchus deal with, should be something related to health, but Virgo has already the health rulership. Also, being between Scorpio and Sagg, Ophiuchus would occupy house IX, which will change everything from house IX onward, making Pisces the 13th sign..as mentioned in the thread, the twelve apostles and Jesus (Pisces age) the 13th. And which would be the ruling planet? It is an interesting topic, I hope the forum astrologers will join us.
Why was Ophiuchus cut out from the zodiac? Maybe because it was the only one which discovered the immortality elixir for humans?
There must be a reason why they dropped the 13th sign. Was it that it just didn't mathematically divide the charts up nicely, and it was easier to just use the universal 12?
Are you pointing to the 12 signs around the central figure the "Sun" symbolically related to "son"? Historically based the western form of astrology still interprets the Sun as a planet that revolves through the zodiac, with the earth the central figure. The cross astrologically represents the Earth. I believe I just answered my own question.

Celtaur, I highly doubt that astrology would disregard Ophiuchus based on technicality reasons, if that's the case I wouldn't have the same respect for it.
The way I see it, humanity has always dreamt immortality, but the theme is nowhere to be found in the 12 astrological houses. Going back to mythology, Ophiuchus showed that immortality on Earth could be attained, but Zeus himself forbid it.
Nowadays, the theme becomes bolder and bolder, anti-aging industry is getting huge, nano-technology is not a science fiction term anymore, Ray Kurzveil states in "Fantastic Voyage-live long enough to live forever" that people which are now under 35 years old and in good health have the chance to live 1000 years. I know it sounds funny, but there are great resources allocated to anti-aging industry and great progress.
I realize that my post is open to debate - we still (or so it looks) did not win the fight with cancer, and probably many more others; the social, economical impact; on the other hand we prepare ourself for 2012, the food arctic vault speaks for the global panic, but all I wanted was to point out that we play a theme which it looks that is forbidden, Ophiuchus not being granted an astrological house, but attainable.

because in 2012 our sun will be in perfect alignment with the center of the galaxy this is know of the great alignment. And all of the world events that arising now are preparing us for one of the so called world catastrophes that were predicted by Nostradamus. Nostradamus knew about the 13th astrological sign and in his time it was known as a secret occult sign and he used it as a marking point. Every 13,000 years or so the sun aligns it self perfectly with the center of the galaxy. Ophiuchus crosses the celestial equator just at the point where the center of our galaxy (the milky way) meets the celestial equator. The center of our galaxy is located in The constellation of Ophiuchus.
As far as Ophiuchus if it has anything to do with health I have not herd of such claims but I did mention in the beginning of this thread that (Ophiuchus the Serpent Bearer (30 Nov to 17 Dec) Nostradamus’s birthday falls on December 14th, Michael Nostradamus was a 16th-century French physician and astrologer). but I do believe Ophiuchus has a significant meaning with saints of course this is only my personal opinion.
