I remember the first time I became familiar with Mr. Alan watts . One of my friends mentioned a link to several of his videos , being skeptical in the fact over zealous spiritual types I grudgingly set forth. Then in an instant my skepticism became silent as the sounds of the truth poured from the lips of this beautiful man. Cloaked in wool and sitting in a cabin of sorts . I had to have more , so video after video I watched and listened with pure intent and awe . Then in pure chance ran across several of his books and ta da , here I am , Thanking you Celtaur for posting this most wonderful collection.

There's other video's on here too from Alan Watts. I too remember when I first learned of him in the late 90's. I loved his method of sharing his wisdom, his perspectives are refreshing and grounding. I've not read any of his books though, but have enjoyed his audio and video many times.

So the last post had me questioning did his lectures come first followed by his books or vice versa. So I went to my handy bookshelf and pulled a few of his books down and examined the publishers dates Why you ask , because in reading several of his books they have run almost word for word with his videos. Such as " The Wisdom of Insecurity" published 1951 by Pantheon books . Though I do not know for sure when the videos surfaced . I believe somewhere in the mid- 70's .
Just thought I would share the findings of my geekedness .

From my understanding many of his books are from his lectures and video's. It is much easier to write down what someone has said, than to memorize from a book word for word and speak for a video. Much like how the Power of Myth book by Joseph Campell is from his video interviews.

Golly Celtaur I can memorize whole books and recite them word for word for video can't you ? I shall ponder... I too like Joseph Campbell's lectures but I'm quite sure I can find a forum section to discuss further on him. Thank you again for the Videos on Sir Alan watts.

Though Alan Watts was not a Zen practitioner, I believe he most definitely achieved what Zen practitioners strive for. That is what I get out of his reading. His perspectives on things could only be gained through a breakthrough, and being able to stay there.
