Essential Crystals

Now I know that, as a crystal healer, you have a corner of the room which looks like the bottom of the local gravel pit. I also know that every time you pass the crystal shop you HAVE TO go in, just for a look and a few moments tranquility surrounded by all that wonderful energy.

Further, I suspect, that more often than not you come out clutching a little bag, containing that one crystal that stood out from the rest, screamed in your direction, or more probably sung that REALLY sad little song that meant you HAD to adopt the poor little thing... ("I'm nobody's child...I'm no-o-body's child....nobody WANTS me..." 'I'll take that one!' {sniff} )

To put the record straight, your living room needn't look like the Geological section of the British Museum. {Whisper this bit} There is a relatively small, and infinitely more manageable number of crystals required to get you started. And {come closer} a pretty inexpensive collection it is too.

In all, your little bag of gems...{yes, I did say, Little Bag}... need only contain twenty-two essential crystals. I have to admit, that there are an additional seven, necessary for the well-being of the healer and {sorry} there are a couple of these which can seem a bit scary on a budget. But twenty-nine compared to that small wheelbarrow you currently have in the corner, can't be all bad.

Don't get me wrong, now. Twenty two crystals, {...yes, yes, plus seven...}, is not going to provide the range and diversity of healing opportunity that your small barrow load is going to, and, yes, there are a lot of conditions which aren't even going to be touched by such a small list.

Think of the list more as a first aid kit, where as that pile in the corner of your room contains at least three operating theatres, two specialist units and a whole troupe of guys in white coats whose job title you can't even pronounce.

So, what is the list of 22 essential crystals?

11. Lemon Chrysoprase
12. Magnesite

20. Rutilated Quartz
21. Sardonyx
22. Smokey Quartz

As previously indicated, as well as the twenty-two essential crystals to have in your first aid kit, it is strongly recommended that you have another seven to hand. This is quite good, as it extends the options a little, since there is no reason why you can’t use these on your victim …erm… client(?) too.

Their main purpose, however, is to protect and energise the healer. Each has it’s own, very particular role in this respect. Of the seven, there are two, without which no crystal healing should ever be attempted. In the absence of the ‘Big-Two’ you are completely vulnerable to all kinds of negativity that may be hanging around your client.

If attempting remote healing, it is particularly important that you protect your client, as well as yourself. This is easily achieved by holding, in your receptive hand, whichever that is, ‘Big-Red’.

And these seven are:

2. Black Tourmaline
3. Clear Quartz
4. Labradorite
5. Lapis Lazuli
6. Ruby
7. Sunstone

I’m sorry, I may have implied that twenty nine was the maximum number of crystals that you would require. That IS true, up to a point. But there are some ‘nice-to-haves’ which kind of sneak their way in to the essential category all too easily.

The good news is: there are only THREE!

1. Pendulum
2. Point
3. Wand

Now, why HAVE I posted such a bizarre list?

Well, firstly because I rediscovered a series of articles which I'd written explaining in far too much detail the qualities and uses of each which prompted my memory... But more importantly because although I've been carrying such a first aid kit around for years, it is only my personal idea of what an essential crystal kit should look like, based entirely on my own experiences with a whole barrow load of them sitting in the corner...

And so I was wondering what crystals / tools are on your essential list...?

When you say calcite, do you mean white/green/yellow/orange/pink mangano calcite?
Why Lemon Chrysoprase as opposed to Green Chrysoprase?
When you say Fluorite, do you mean green/purple/rainbow?

My list is remarkably like yours It contains more stones for working with the heart
and the heart chakra due to my own issues and of course those are the people I end up
working with....

I like to have garnet, red and pink tourmaline and/or watermelon tourmaline
and emphatically pink mangano calcite.

I like to have lepidolite, howlite and scolecite for working on the emotional level [along with amazonite and apache tear]

I adore mahogany obsidian, a hugely underrated stone for sure!

I like to use charoite for those undergoing life transitions.

While I love carnelian, I also like to work with tangerine quartz and orange calcite.

I can't do without aquamarine and always have blue lace agate available.

I would rather work with Selenite than quartz crystal.

I have never used Magnesite or Sardonyx for healing. I must check them out

Now you see why I have a wheelbarrow of them... In the 'First Aid Kit', any calcite will do, as I tend to be working with the generic properties. Personal preference is the orange.

Why Lemon Chrysoprase as opposed to Green Chrysoprase?

Just personal bias, really. The lemon variety I find much more subtle. The green, brown or white varieties can be a little too intense for the client. Lemon has a more gentle effect in my experience, so more suited to the 'First Aid Kit'.

Again, any will do for the same reasons as the calcite. My personal preference is for the blue variety.

Interesting point about the apparent missing of the heart chakra. I hadn't considered that. I tend to blast their heart chakras with the peridot! Maybe I should consider something more gentle...

I would rather work with Selenite than quartz crystal.

You haven't seen my #1 wand, then...

Haruth, you know me all too well..I have a china cabinet dedicated to stones only and my buffet top as well....I also have boxes and boxes of them..every one of them loved and cherished..

Thank you for clarifying your preferences..I think it important to have gentle tools as well as more aggressive ones..that's why I choose the selenite over the quartz and the mahogany obsidian for those who can't tolerate black or red stones.

I have worked a lot with people who suffer from anxiety or bipolar conditions and find the rainbow fluorite to be virtually unparalled for such cases, so it's my choice of fluorite.

Interesting. I hadn't considered how the clientele affects what stones we work with most, and find most useful in the 'grab' bag. Most of my clients all come back to communication issues at some level or another and I just realised that my list is rather biased towards the blue end of the spectrum...

LOL..the "filter" rears its ubiquitous head...I am sure that everyone who works with stone will have a preponderance of clients with similar issues. Perhaps the people we work with are our mirrors..it would be strange in a way if they weren't

I really do need to relearn what I've forgotten and expand on it. There is a little crystal shop in a tiny garden centre near here, that has a turf maze...I keep 'calling in' just to feel the place. ( Oh, and get quite lost in the selenite tower lit from inside as a lamp which looks like the Mountains of the Moon.. and is exorbitantly expensive , or in the great amethyst geodes in the plants...) My grandfather used to take me stone hunting and we'd tumble and polish them. I learned a good deal from him, but it is long. long ago...
