I'm watching History Television on the Mayans and was drawn to it for it's discussion on many things including a mention of Obsidian being volcanic glass which mayans used as a blade and is in fact one of the sharpest blades known to man being near an atom thick. These blades were also used to carve amazing art.
Most notably is being discussed King Pekow of Pelenka, one of, if not the greatest builder in Mayan history.
He was found in his secret tomb in a pyramid wearing a jade mask, mysteriously with a jade sphere in one hand, cube of jade in the other.
On discussing the structures of the pyramids (temples) Mayanists (those who study the Mayan culture and history) noted there was no specific unit of measure used for these cities. No standardized unit of measurement whatsoever i.e. cm, inches, etc. However upon looking closer and researching they discovered the Mayans used measures of comparison, the principles of sacred geometry. They based their building of their cities temples on the shapes of nature, using this technique to layout the temples. The square derived from flower patterns. The shapes of the flowers were in their houses. Using simple square and circle shapes they were able to construct everything.
King Pekow had these sacred symbols buried with him.
Sorry for the spelling, I'm going phonetic on the names.
