"Mayan Prophecy: Entering Our Galactic Day

Many of us are aware of the Mayan calendar but not many people truly understand what it means and how it works. Yes, the calendar does end on December 21, 2012, but what does that mean? How does it come to that? What is the calendar based on?

The Mayans had a very precise understanding of our solar system's cycles and believed that these cycles coincided with our spiritual and collective consciousness. The most significant of these cycles has much to do with the 2012 prophecies. In the following writing, we will walk through the main details of their prophecies surrounding the 2012 transition. We'll cover how the transition takes place (from an astronomical perspective), what it means for us, and when the cycles take place. We'll start with the basic prophecies and later move deeper into the explanation of the cycles.

The Mayans prophesied that from 1999 we have 13 years to realize the changes in our conscious attitude, to stray from the path of self-destruction and instead move onto a path that opens our consciousness to integrate us with all that exists.

The Mayans knew that our Sun, or Kinich-Ahau, synchronized every so often with the enormous central galaxy. From this central galaxy, the Sun receives a 'spark' of light which caused it to shine more intensely, producing what our scientists call 'solar flares' as well as changes in the Sun's magnetic field. The Mayans say that this happens every 5,125 years, and that it causes a displacement in the earths rotation. Because of this movement, they predicted that great catastrophes would be produced.

The Mayans believed the universal processes, like the 'breathing' of the galaxy, are cycles that never change. What changes is the consciousness of man that passes through it, always in a process toward perfection. Based on their observations, the Mayans predicted that from the initial date of the start of their civilization, 4 Ahau, 8 Cumku, which is 3113 B.C., one cycle would be completed 5,125 years in their future, on December 21st, 2012. The Sun, having received a powerful ray of synchronizing light from the center of the galaxy, would change its polarity, producing a great cosmic event that would propel human kind to be ready to cross into a new era, The Golden Age. It is after this, the Mayans say, we will be ready to go through the door that was left by them, transforming our civilization from one based on fear to a vibration much higher in harmony.

Only from our individual efforts could we avoid the path to great cataclysm that our planet will suffer to start a new era, the sixth cycle of the Sun. The Mayan civilization was in the fifth cycle of the Sun, and there were four other great civilizations before them that were destroyed by great natural disasters. They believed that each cycle was just one stage in the collective consciousness of humanity.

In the last cataclysm of the Mayans, the civilization was destroyed by a great flood that left little survivors of which were their descendants. They believed that having known the end of their cycle, mankind would prepare for what is to come in the future and it is because of this that they would have preserved the dominant species; the human race. They say that coming changes will permit us to make a quantum leap forward in the evolution of our consciousness to create a new civilization that would manifest great harmony and compassion to all humankind.

Their first prophecy talks about 'The Time of No-Time', a period of 20 years, which they call a Kat..n, which is the last 20 years of the Sun's 5,125 year cycle. This cycle is from 1992 - 2012. I'll explain this in greater detail later. They predicted that during these times, solar winds would become more intense and could be seen on the Sun. This would be a time of great realization and great change for mankind, and it would be our own lack of preservation and contamination of the planet that would contribute to these changes. According to the Mayans, these changes would happen so that mankind comprehends how the universe works so we could advance to superior levels, leaving behind superficial materialism and liberating ourselves from suffering.

The Mayans say that seven years after the start of Kat..n, so 1999, we would enter a time of darkness which would force us to confront our own conduct. The say that this is the time when mankind will enter 'The Sacred Hall of Mirrors', where we will look at ourselves and analyze our behaviors with ourselves, with others, with nature and with the planet in which we live. This will be a time in which all of humanity, by individual conscious decisions, decides to change and eliminate fear and lack of respect from all of our relationships. The Mayans prophesied that the start of this period would be marked by a solar eclipse on August 11, 1999, known to them as 13 Ahau, 8 Cauac. This also would coincide with an unprecedented planetary alignment, the 'Grand Cross' alignment. This would be the beginning of the last 13 years of the Kat..n period, the last opportunity for our civilization to realize the changes that are coming at the moment of our spiritual regeneration.

For the Mayans, everything is numbers and the time of the 13 sacred numbers started in August 1999. They predicted that along with the eclipse, the forces of nature would act like a catalyst of changes so accelerated and with such magnitude that mankind would be powerless against them. Also, that our technologies in which we rely on so much would begin to fail us. We would no longer be able to learn from our civilization in the way that we are organized as a society. They said that our internal, spiritual development would require a better place along with a better way to interact with more respect and compassion.

The first prophecies were attained by their study of our Sun. The Mayans discovered that the entire solar system moved, and that even our universe has its own cycles, repetitive periods which begin and end like our day and night. These discoveries lead to the understanding that our solar system always rotates on an ellipse that brings our solar system closer and further from the center of the galaxy. In other words, according to the Mayans, our Sun and all of its planets rotate in cycles in relation to the center of the galaxy or Hunab-K.., the central light of the galaxy. It takes 25,625 years for our solar system to make one cycle on this ellipse. One complete cycle is called a galactic day. The cycle is divided into two halves similar to our day and night. The half closest to the central light, is our solar system's 'day' and the half furthest away is its 'night'. Each day and each night lasts 12,800 years. Which is to say, the central galaxy is the Sun for our entire solar system.

The Mayans discovered that every grand cycle has its minor cycles, that carry the same characteristics. One galactic day of 25,625 years is divided into five cycles of 5,125 years. The first cycle is the galactic morning, when our solar system is just coming out of the darkness to enter the light. The second cycle is the mid-day, when our solar system is closest to the central light. The third cycle is the afternoon, when our solar system begins to come out of the light. The fourth cycle is the late-night, when our solar system has entered its furthest cycle from the central light. The fifth and last cycle is night before dawn, when our solar system is in its last cycle of darkness before starting again. This is the cycle we are currently coming out of.

The Mayan prophecy tells us that in 1999, our solar system began to leave the end of the fifth cycle which started in 3113 B.C., and that we find ourselves in the morning of our galactic day, exiting darkness and on the verge of being in plain day of our central galaxy in 2012. They say that at the beginning and end of these cycles, which is to say, every 5,125 years, the central sun or light of the galaxy emits a ray of light so intense and so brilliant that it illuminates the entire universe. It is from this burst of light that all of the Suns and planets sync. The Mayans compare this burst to the pulse of the universe, beating once every 5,125 years. It is these pulses that mark the end of one cycle and the beginning of the next. Each pulse lasts 20 years, a Kat..n.

So we come back to what they call 'The Time of No Time'. It is an evolutionary period, short but intense, inside the grand cycles where great changes take place to thrust us into a new age of evolution as individuals and as mankind.

As individuals, we will have to make decisions that will affect us all. If we continue on this negative path of hate, an eye for an eye, destruction of nature, of fear and egoism, we will enter straight into the time of destruction and chaos, and we will disappear as the dominant race of this planet. If we become conscious and realize that we all form part of a great organism, and that we should respect one another and be grateful to our planet, then we will move directly into positive growth, our Golden Age. Our planet, the Sun and the Galaxy are awaiting our decision. It is up to us what will happen in this time of change-- whether we go through a time of suffering and destruction or we find ourselves united in one positive consciousness moving closer to our next stage.

I've been interested in this for years and your post has opened up a more organized approach to thinking about the Mayan prophecy as much information on the web can be somewhat unclear.

John Major Jenkins thinks that the apparent alignment of the sun at winter solstice with the central region of Milky Way, which will occur on 12/21/2012, was regarded in Mayan mythology as the rebirth or return of solar god (solar god = sun at winter solstice; while central region of the Milky Way is a dark interstellar dust area which the Mayans called Xibalba be - Road to the Underworld). This alignment happens once in about 26,000 years, which is the so-called precessional cycle.

In the absence of mainstream scientific support for any unusual physical consequences of this alignment, I lean toward a symbolic interpretation of it. In addition to Jenkins' reading of Mayan mythology I might add that the precessional cycle (wobbling of the earth's axis of rotation) is caused mainly by the gravitational forces of the sun and moon - two prominent celestial bodies that traditionally symbolized two polarities, and so the interplay of these polarities takes us through the cycle of the zodiac (the precessional cycle), all aspects of human nature, so to speak. Also, according to Jenkins the Mayan solar god is to be resurrected by his two children - the so-called hero twins. And the hero twins myth says that eventually these twins become transformed into sun and moon. It's all charged with symbolic meaning.

However, the "central region of the Milky Way" is a broad area and so the alignment actually takes many consecutive years. 2012 is just one of those years. There appears to be something special about the winter solstice in 2012 though... it will occur at 11:11 universal time (see US Navy website).

I'm really happy you posted this. I just recently watched a program on 2012 and it was pretty gloomy. Your post is realistic rather than nihilistic. I would agree that we have to prepare ourselves for such things, and from a personal standpoint I can say that I have sensed a change coming in the air. On top of that, I feel that there is an underlying change in the collective unconscious, which I believe is one of positivity. As human beings I think its our duty to be aware, and due to this awareness, we must make other aware. Forums such as this spread the word through the collective unconscious, allowing new ideas to surface in unexpected places...Namaste.

All I know is that we are entering a new season which will create changes, similar in the way the earth changes as we move from winter to spring, new life, consciousness and awareness will emerge through all things living on earth, including the earth itself. Its an awakening, just like life awakens from its winter slumber. This is a regular 21,000 year cycle, so we haven't experienced it for a long time.. What effect this will have on you depends on what kind of being you are, as spring makes the weeds grow just as much as the flowers, this will determine the experience and the process you create for yourself in being just who you are, Its not something you can lie about or con your way through.. Its nature, it just is, its the way things happen. This is why it is very important to Know yourself, and work toward increasing your self awareness and your awareness/connection with life. The highest and most powerful connection is love, as all emotion creates energy which in turns manifests itself through conscious intent. In this time 2012, this manifestation process will go into high speed.. When we combine our intent and emotion, magic will happen. We have the capacity to create our personal heaven or hell. The last time this was experienced was in pre history times known as the Golden Age, the Dreamtime etc.. Depending on which cultures viewpoint you go from.

The eclipse on August 11th, 1999 happened at 11:11 GMT, and of course the eclipse of our solar system with the center of the galaxy is scheduled to happen at 11:11 GMT on December 21, 2012. Whenever you see this number, as many of us do so often, it may serve as a reminder of the shift taking place and what is at stake. This is a reminder for us to get our things in order. We have a choice of whether the shift will be insanely cataclysmic or a more of a slide into the next density. One persons focused intention is more powerful than we could ever imagine, but combined with many others, intention is exponentially multiplied. Please, whenever you see this number, let it be a reminder that we need to be the example, we need to get along with each other despite differences, find new ways to improve upon ourselves, new ways of serving others, and strive to be enlightened beings. Whenever you see this number, take a minute or even a couple of seconds to send out a good intention of peace, love and happiness to the world, but don't stop there.... Let this number be a reminder that we should be taking as much time as we can out of each day to send loving intentions to the world. This is our chance to be the change we wish to see in the world. Let's focus on this common goal in our prayers and meditations. Times may still get rough, but these cataclysms or actions against each other may be amplified by the emotions of fear, hate, and depression. Let us welcome this shift and time of change to our greatest extent. There are always catalysts in life to learn and change for the better from. With enough combined intention, this may be an easy transition and one of the greatest experiences in human history.

Kali makles a good point about sending out these messages of peace and good intentions. What is coming in our future is for us to decide, especially on a personal level. As far as numbers are concerned, I have been seeing a
great deal of the number 4 when it comes to time. eg. 4:28, 4:20, 4:44 etc...
I also keep a synchronicity journal, and I have encouraged others to do so as well. The reason I keep this journal is to keep an eye on the happenings in
the collective unconscious. The appearance of various numbers within synchronicities connects to the energies of a world in transition.

Kali....read your post and really appreciated it.This type of info really intrigues me....but,as for what happened to the Mayan civilization....Has anyone read "The Celestine Prophesy".It is a book by James Redfield and it was published as a fiction book but for me I would have to say he wanted it published that way so no one would think he is nuts.He has his own interpretation as to what happened to the Mayan civilization and I will not spoil it for those who have not read it,but it is a book everyone needs in their collection.I am no scholar on Mayan culture but I tend to believe that the fate of their culture was as this book says.I guess a person would have to read it to understand why I have come to believe its philosophy.I have one question for you Kali...is it not true that there were no physical traces as what happened to the Mayans?What I mean is ..no bones or burial sites....just building and pottery and such.From what I have heard it was like they just vanished,and then of course there are paintings of men coming down from the heavens.

Awhile back I watched a television program that talked about it and needless to say, it was very dark and disturbing. I like this interpretation not because it is a little brighter, but rather because it is more in line with what I've been told about the prophecy. A mayan Elder explained that the destruction of the world is but one outcome. While yes it does imply destruction of the world, but we know that the old ones talked in metaphor and allegory. He believed that when they implied the end of the world, it is the end of the world as we know it not in a physical sense, but rather in the sense of our dependency on technology and our quest for power and domination.

You look at the history of the Ancient Mayans. Their civilization was destroyed and many assumed that the Mayans themselves disappeared. But they are still alive in the highlands of Peru and Bolivia. However, when they abandoned their civilization they returned to the land, it was only their civilization that disappeared. You look at where their civilization was at the time of it's abandonment, it was a civilization built on empire building, and a hierarchal power structure. What I have been told is that they chose to abandon their headlong quest for power and technology. I beleive that the prophecy was left as a warning to the rest of the world.

Many of the prophecies of Indigenous peoples talk about a time of great change, where we must choose. As you say Kali, we have done great damage to the earth, and if we don't stop we will destroy our own environment and we are in a time of change, where we must change our own attitudes. I posted a prophecy from my people and it talks about us being in a time for choice, where we can continue our headlong rush towards technology, or we can learn from the past and change. Take the best of both worlds and build a better one.
