Nature, Environment, Healing, Holistic 3-Card Life Spread - Fairy Tale Tarot Deck

    Hi everyone!

I thought I'd post a reading I did today. I'm a little rusty on the traditional meanings of the cards, so I've basically interpreted things using the Fairy Tales only. I'd love to hear anyone's comments or what they see too! For the purpose of length, I've summarized the fairy tales!

First Card: Prince of Wands. This card reveals who I was.

Fairy Tale: Dick Whittington and his Cat

Once there was a little boy named Dick Whittington. He lived in a small village, but longed to go to London, where he heard tales of streets paved in gold. He packed his meager belongings and travelled to London. Once there, he saw no gold streets, and became impoverished and weak. A merchant took pity on him and gave him room and board in exchange for working for an evil cook who abused him. His room was infested with rats and mice, and once Dick saved up a penny, he bought a cat from a street vendor. The cat was a great mouser and cleared the rodents from his room. One day the merchant declared that his ship would travel far, and that riches were in store for anyone who would invest. Dick could only offer his cat as an investment, claiming it would keep the ship free of rodents. As the ship reached a distant land, the crew sat down with the king and queen in a large dining hall. As they were eating, rats and mice took over the table and the king offered riches to the person who would rid his castle of them. The captain of the ship offered his solution and let Dick Whittington’s cat loose in the room. The cat rid the entire room of rodents and the king rewarded the captain with a ship full of riches. Upon the ship’s return, the captain found Dick Whittington and declared him a rich young man. He eventually married and became the Major of London.

Reading: I think this card represents who I was very well. I was the little boy searching for the streets of gold, and giving up my prized possessions to invest in the future. In my case, my prized possessions were my ambition and loyalty. I moved way too fast, trying to succeed, while all the while, hiding in the shadow of despair and poverty. The cat is cunning, intelligent and stealthy – a hunter. During my career, I was definitely all of those things. I was in charge, but I became way too overzealous – that fire was raging.

Second Card: Eight of Wands. This card reveals who I am.

Fairy Tale: The Three Princes and Their Beasts

This is the story of three princes who spare the life of a wolf and her cubs. The wolf gives each prince a cub, and over the years, they grow into a pack. The princes shoot arrows into a tree and tell each other to mind the tree – if they see the arrow bleeding, that the prince is in trouble. The first prince comes across a sorceress while lost in the woods; she touches his beasts with her wand and turns them to stone. She then touches the prince who also turns to stone. The second prince sees the bleeding arrow and seeks out his brother, only to be turned to stone as well by the sorceress. The third prince sees the two bleeding arrows and finds the sorceress. But he grabs her wand and tells her that if she doesn’t release the stone figures from her spell, his beasts will devour her. She complies and they are all released from her spell.

Reading: I think the message of this tale is that obstacles can be overcome through strength and courage. The fact that the third prince sees right through the sorceress and takes charge – this describes my current journey. I have always struggled with the past “me” and that does create obstacles in my life. But lately I’ve been moving forward and attaining my goals. Again, another winner card!

Third Card: Five of Wands. This card reveals who I am becoming.

    Fairy Tale: The Snow Queen

Once there were two friends, Kay and Gerda. They shared a love for their garden and were happy children. One day during the winter, Kay saw a large snowflake fall into his rose garden, then transform into a menacing figure – the Snow Queen. She beckoned for Kay to join her but he stood fearfully inside by the window. When spring arrived, Kay and Gerda went out to look at their garden, but a small piece of mirror became lodged into Kay’s eye. It was from the goblin world, and turned Kay into a mean-spirited little boy who tormented his former friend Gerda. One winter day, the Snow Queen arrived and Kay left with her in her sleigh. Meanwhile, Gerda went to the woods every day to search for her lost friend. She never gave up, and took a boat down a river to look farther. At the edge of the river was an old woman who took Gerda in. She wanted a daughter and put a spell on Gerda to erase all of her memories so that she would stay with her. Far away, the Snow Queen had imprisoned Kay in her ice prison where he was to stay for eternity. His only hope was that Gerda’s memories would return so that she could find him and save him.

Reading: I didn’t like this card when I saw that this was what I was becoming, because my eye naturally observed the menacing lure of the Snow Queen; and the innocence of Kay being drawn into her spell. But when I thought about the fairy tale and the message behind it, I saw this card as a stern warning for me; that this is the time to work hard to tear down those obstacles that have led me astray in the past. I am still battling some menacing entities, for sure. But I have to move more aggressively to rid myself of them now so that they don’t become a battle for the rest of my life.

    Youd did a good reading,
!. prince wands: up and coming , balancing firey and airy aspect, moving forwards
    spiritually
2 air of fire which is like the first card so who you were is likely who you are, the men show their power of thinking and skills to create, better mastery than a child making a living above
3 future 5 wands, fire of fire, fire fight, not necesssarily a bad thing as you said, spiritual challenge. There is still hope when all seems dire or you seem frozen on your path, be watchful.

I cant help but think this is not past life, prsent and future reincarnation, but aspects of your current incarnation. Child/young adult, adult, and senior or recent future.

I haven't had a chance to overlook the thread content yet, (I'm a little sick this week and foggy brained) but I must say those cards are beautifully drawn. I love how they look! Will comment soon

    Hi Brifae!

Thanks for your comment! I like your interpretation, I think that this spread really described me well, and I should have mentioned that it's a current life spread, not past life/present/future reincarnation. Good call, you saw that right away!

Do you have any comment about the fact that all three cards were Wands? I know that Wands are linked with fire. I saw this as my passionate personality.

Thanks Celtaur! I know you're not feeling well, I'm sending you healing energy! Take care of yourself!!!

Who you were: Prince of Wands - Yes I can see you were passionate and you mentioned commerce (business) so that makes sense. You said you gave up your prized posessions (ambition and loyalty), but weren't you ambitious about your career, really going for it? You were really enthusiastic... did you have difficulty in sticking-to-it. The prince can have difficulty committing, or was it that you were so focused on your business you missed out on committing to other things? Ok I just realized my questions are like prying... I'm just thinking out loud about the card, don't mind me .

As I mentioned I love the look of these cards, really beautiful. I actually don't remember that fairy tale, so it's nice to be introduced to it. As taking on the cat archetypal symbolism, it's very instinctual. I love cats. I notice when you let them outside they nearly immediately turn from sheer curiosity to being on the prowl.

Who you are: You've got another wands card and I saw the next is as well... very firey, passionate, directed you are... alright, that sounded like yoda... I'm such a geek tonight :P

It looks like you are very accomplishment oriented, as much so as you were before possibly, but maybe your priorities have changed and with the knowledge you gained about yourself from before you are better able to direct your will in a way that feels more synchronistic and on purpose. Your getting your focus more down to what you really want and maybe the realization came to you quickly. Be careful though that you don't get too overzealous with your excitement, attentively and decisively trust the flow of where you place your focus.

I didn't know this fairy tale either.

Five's are usually challenging, so to me it points to work to do. Kay has hope and that hope comes from the past. Kay is definitely in a bit of a challenging phase, and has to use whatever abilities he can to sustain himself until help arrives. Whenever I get a challenging card at the end, I usually pull another asking for clarification if the future isn't clear. There's a challenge there... how to overcome it? This card though does look to the past for the answers (the hope) so it makes sense to leave it at that if you're comfortable.

However, because you have so much fiery energy and the previous card is looking to you being ambitious and able to direct your will, I would say that you'd see the challenges as opportunities rather than obstacles that hinder you. Ice is transformative too... she may be the ice queen, but with all that fire behind you, you could melt her away.

    Hi Celtaur!

Not prying!!! I'm very open about my life! To be honest, re: Who I was...I really do feel like I was manipulated so badly at work that I gave up my ambition and loyalty to please my boss at all cost. I gave him that gift, and after my burnout, I lost those things. They are surfacing now, but I do feel as though I had to bargain with them in order to further my career...does that make sense?

Who I am: LOL!!! Yoda you are!!! Ha ha, that was great! Yes, I agree with you because I felt so horrible for at least the last seven years, and just this past summer I started to feel better, and it would be very easy to be overzealous and take on too much, that would lead to a few steps back for sure. It's a challenge though, when you finally find your spirit again, you just feel like you can take on the world!

Who I will be: I REALLY like your reading of that last card. Fire melts ice, seeing obstacles as opportunities...this is really who I am/striving to be at the moment. I just got a little feeling of hope and happiness! I have one major challenge I'm dealing with in my daily life and I see the Snow Queen as that constant entity that could lure me back under the guise of enchantment...but having a more positive point of view is very encouraging! Thanks so much!

Btw...I taught myself the Tarot, never had a teacher or any kind of guide book really, you're the second person (Reader as well) who mentioned a clarification card...can you tell me a little bit about that?

yes Celtaur is very astute, your fire can melt the ice.
Its a spiritual journey, or of self creation, as the wands represent fire, not really "passion" but spiritual generative fire
    The male or phallice energy.
whereas cups would be female, emotion, sadness or happiness, illusion, passivity. (earth passive female physical, air male active mental).
I draw the next card as a clarifier, especially if i draw a court/personality card.
A significator is a card that you remove from the deck prior to represent a specifc person in question or the querent.

I love the Tarot because there are so many ways to interpret and not everyone's is the absolute correct version. It all depends on the deck and what you see and how you interpret. Strict rules just don't appeal to me.

For the clarifying card I just pull the next card in the deck. Sometimes people will reshuffle without putting the other cards back, then select a card, but I find it's amazingly accurate (as the tarot often is) to pull the next card, and I think the universe is fully aware that you'll be pulling the next card before you do, so with synchronicity everything falls in place as it's meant to.

Like I mentioned in a post about the death card, I find if a card (or series of cards) isn't giving a clear answer, another card can sometimes be necessary to put it in context. This could get out of hand and you could keep pulling cards until there are none left in the deck and I'm sure some people would do it until they got the answer they wanted to hear, but that wouldn't make sense. I think trusting the next card, and for me 2 max if things are really that unclear, can bring more clarity.

Sometimes though you may think you need a clarifier even if the answer is right there in front of you in the cards already pulled. This may be because you aren't picking up all the clues in the cards already laid out, so I only pull a clarifier after I've really scratched my head and taken what's already in front of me into consideration and reflected on it enough to know I really do need that clarifying card.

Reading tarot can be a very unique thing, and although there are general guidelines such as recipes in books many people adhere to, or use as a catalyst for more creative reading. I don't think it's terrible to do what feels right in the moment and trust your intuition. It's all a learning process.
