There are other threads on here about marijuana, but I figured one specifically about legalization would be good.

Medical Marijuana is having problems in Canada, doctors don't want to prescribe it.

A Canadian Judge has ruled Canada's marijuana laws are unconstitutional.

Here's a bit of news on how marijuana may become legal in Ontario very soon.



It's very interesting to see people smoking and calling it medication.

In the clip a woman is cutting her plants... does the government allow people to grow their own for medical purposes? If so that's amazing, to actually be allowed to grow your own medicine is a huge step away from the highly controlled pharmaceutical industry.

However the woman said it's hard to obtain, does that mean the plants they can grow don't seed, so once they're gone, they're gone?

I wonder if the interviewer on this next one was getting high on the second hand smoke in Vapor Central







After all is said and done, I doubt it will become legalized to the masses in 90 days. I think Health Canada will just make changes so it's easier for patients to access it as a medication.

I wish they would decriminalize it though, or outright legalize it, if only to make it easier for me to grow it myself without some fascist pigs breaking down my door with guns drawn in full SWAT gear.

There has been health canada mmar mmad program for over 10 years to grow your own, only 2600 canadians have access, estimated 300 000 med users in bc alone. The slowly process paperwork needing yearly renewal takes 9 months, and they send medicine if you order from the government 3-6 months later, they will give you some seeds then cut you off and the prices and quality is not good enough, the doctors poorly informed. the program is a joke, thats why the govt has been sued for unconstitional drug laws have been struck down several times, the sick are turned into criminals, their children taken, won t stop police from arresting the disabled and sick though, hence latest court case, a major win, but it creates more uncertainity for sick canadians if the program is scrapped under Harper. I'm sure the usa dea and un will have something to say about it.

I wonder if this is a sign of the times, that we need to return back to the earth and stop depending on the corporate world to be the leaders who decide our fate and reality. Capitalism has pros and cons. When the cons take control because of the hierarchal rules that suppress take hold where we can't choose to use herbs of the earth because companies want to profit on making us consume their laboratory experiments, it's very unfortunate.

I sincerely hope that this thing happens, I smoke pot very often with my friends it brings us all together. But the main point is people with problems must be able to access as much as they need to. My mom has dealt with pain for a long time now and no synthesized pills and whatnot has done anything to help her, i tell her every time to talk to our doctor about it. Unfortunatly she is worried that he will say no and go off on an ignorant and blind tangent. Its really quite sad that this has to be taken to the level that it has, if the laws are similar to that of alocohol and/or tobacco I can't see anything wrong with that at all (and that has nothing to do with the fact that i am an avid user). I can access alcohol and tobacco extremely easy legally, yet i dont care for those things. I would say most people are the same way with it as i am, anything can be bad if you do it too much, including shopping, coffee, liquor, etc, etc. So why is that stopping it from being decriminalized. its such a hot issue, that we need to cool off, not only here in canada but all around the world. Growing medicine is much, much better and more effective than getting groups of scientists to create these possibly harmful "medicines". Not only does it have major health benefits for people with pain and other problems, but hemp can basically be used for anything, clothes, paper, rope, fuel, the list goes on. Power to the people

High-level commission calls drug war a failure, recommends legal regulation of marijuana

NEW YORK, N.Y. - A high-level international panel slammed the war on drugs as a failure Thursday and called on governments to undertake experiments to decriminalize the use of drugs, especially marijuana, to undermine the power of organized crime.

Compiled by the Global Commission on Drug Policy, the report concludes that criminalization and repressive measures have failed with devastating consequences for individuals and societies around the world.

"Political leaders and public figures should have the courage to articulate publicly what many of them acknowledge privately: that the evidence overwhelmingly demonstrates that repressive strategies will not solve the drug problem, and that the war on drugs has not, and cannot, be won," the report said.
The 19-member commission includes former presidents of Mexico, Brazil and Colombia, Greece's prime minister, former U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan, former U.S. officials George P. Schultz and Paul Volcker, the writers Carlos Fuentes and Mario Vargas Llosa, and British billionaire Richard Branson.
At a news conference launching the report, former Brazilian President Fernando Henrique Cardoso, who chairs the commission said ending the war on drugs does not imply complete liberalization.

"The fact is that the war on drugs is a failure," he said. "Being a failure is not saying that you have nothing to do with drugs. You have to act. The drug are infiltrating the local power in several parts of the world. Corruption is increasing and the consumption of drugs is also increasing."

Instead of punishing drug users, the commission argues that governments should "end the criminalization, marginalization and stigmatization of people who use drugs but who do no harm to others."

The commission urged governments to experiment "with models of legal regulation of drugs to undermine the power of organized crime and safeguard the health and security of their citizens." It said this recommendation applies especially to marijuana.
Branson, speaking at the press conference, highlighted the drug wars' high cost.

"It's estimated that over one trillion have been spent on fighting this unwinnable battle," Branson said. "The irony is that a regulated market — one that is tightly controlled, one that would offer support not prison to those with drug problems — would cost tax payers much less money."

Insite safe injection site ruling has been appealed by the federal govt and the decision isnt back yet from the supreme court about constitutionality, important because all drug laws were first stricken down, there is a confusion in who should decide what is appropriate health care feds or bc, trad provinces have jurisdiction, but the feds want enforcement and criminal power.

Nice map, but weed isn't really decriminalized in North Carolina. They just usually write off your first offense for personal use with community service or something. Same thing happens in Virginia, which it shows as "confirmed illegal"....

Probably the same for Ohio and New York.

Got my hopes up for a minute though.
