I'm so glad you're giving yourself the opportunity to look at and perceive things in a more positive way. I completely relate to you in regards to the news. I avoid it. Although, there are important aspects to news, I find an overwhelming majority is very negative.
I remember years ago I was literally sucked into the media and politics, and what a devastation to the soul that was. The fear it promotes, the arguing of who was right and who was wrong. It is a very ego based way of thinking and very far from spirituality. People get caught in these concerns unfortunately and do what they can to defend their views against others. I find media has a tendency to focus on the negative, and I am bothered that even while watching programs on television I do enjoy, I'll be bombarded by bad news during a commercial as a "Breaking News" about someone somewhere in the world who has either had a horrible accident, or a tragedy has occurred.
It is not a "Version of reality", that I accept as reality. The news speaks to our most primal instict of fear. I agree, the "reality" the news projects is a distraction from our higher purpose.
It is a conscious choice to avoid the negative and live in a higher state of thinking, focusing on the positive and our abilities to ascend to higher states of wisdom and spirituality.
