    Aaarrrrgghhfffff....

Impacted molar resulting in infection of the bone. Unbelievable pain, and all the dentist offered was a clean out of the pus. Tried everything from clove oil, to salt water, to cold milk to alcohol. Nothing! Advil, aspirin and ibuprofen (not ALL at once) doesn't even touch the sides...

Anyone have any wonder cure for a) relieving the pain and b) for clearing up the infection.

(And no - he never even offered antibiotics... :-( )

It's so hard to get antibiotics these days I find... It's like pulling teeth!

For infection rinse with water and tea tree and maybe try water and peroxide.

For the pain, maybe rinsing with peppermint oil as it's an analgesic, however since clove is as well and offers great numbing I find, if that didn't work, not sure.

Get a second opinion and get anti-biotics.

Herbal remedies are nice, but in this case full blown meds are needed.
    The road runs both ways.

Just had something similar happen to me. Fortunately I did get antibiotics, and pain killers. Before that though I used warm water and salt and rinsed it out. Alcohol isn't really good for it due to the fact it burns it, irritating it more. But, as nventr said, try and get some antibiotics.

Oh yes, isn't epsom salts a great rinse to pull out toxins. I know it's used for a lot of wound healing... I don't think it's a good idea to swallow it though

Thanks all for the great tips. Unfortunately, my router died, so have been offline since I posted so didn't get a chance to try any of them out. But I'll certainly keeop them handy for the next time... yes, there will be a next time, as inspection today showed all clear on infection... "so, we'll just leave it in for the time being..." But, but, ...

Yeah, the antibiotic thing is getting ridiculous. They are desperately trying to hold back the nasties from building up resistence, so it is quite strictly controlled these days. Seems you have to pretty much be on your last legs before they'll take the risk.

Haruth - am new so reading this thread for the first time. Am anti antibiotics! they muck up your digestion totally and your gut is the basis of your immunity. How is your digestive health btw?? mouth reflects the gut. Excellent herbs for oral health: echinacea; myrrh; propolis; sage, marigold. Get tinctures (alcohol based extractions) and dilute to make them reasonably palatable. NB Myrrh is v v bitter (but good!) First sign of any activity - you'll know if it feels different - rinse 3/4 times a day with a combo of any of the above but always include myrrh or propolis. You could add peppermint essential oil to make it taste better if necessary. Eliminate inflammatory foods from your diet for a bit to see if that helps things clear up (this could be just wheat or all gluten containing foods (oats, buckwheat..), dairy - depends on your triggers). Last but def not least - oil pulling! Loads of info on this ancient Ayurvedic practice on the net but use organic sesame oil - clinically proven (if you want such proofs) to improve oral health :-)
