Visually, it depends on the number / planet being used. The forms start at 4 in a star like pattern and by 9 it looks like a disected defracted grid. One gets a visual idea of the mathmatical laws at work wich make the magic square work ( ie. fulfill the deffinition of what a magic square is in relation to its line totals and arrangements). The 4 color schemes can look garish, I prefered modification (eg. The 'Mandala' of the Moon (from the square of 9)
had a version in silver gloss on matt black. Effect was quiet stunning on the front of the Moon altar in a likewise decorated temple. Venus ... I never quiet got it, a bit to angular and busy. Mercury can be stunning, and if one uses varient squares (to the ones in the G.D. Book - and at least one in there has a mistake!) e.g. Ben Franklin's square of 8 (apparently Ben could jot them down , filling in the coloumns as he went - its not THAT hard, one gets a hint why when looking at one of these 'mandalas') - the patter is like two towers , with a line at the base and top it looks a little like the Gemini glyph. Simpler numbers, the mandala can be rotated and traced on itself to make more complex mandala patterns, but with higher numbers this becomes hectic.

Magicaly, I thought the result was excellent (after trial and adaption), more effective (for me and the others) than the traditional number grid, with numbers and shapes, Although one of these in four colors looked great in Sun temple on the altar of Sol ( Rite of Sol )

Yes, I suppose you could use one of these planetary mandalas as a seal to block , modify or increase energy of any other planetary sigil. It all depends on intent and whats around.To see it the other way, that the tools and technology have their own energy regardless, I can see how visually it could look like a stamp or seal, especially the higher numbers. My feeling was more like it was an ariel. Many energies are around and pass through the mandala , but because of its shape and line (showing the mathmatical laws inherent or the planetary energy ) it attracts that energy. On an altar it may work as a broadcaster (like a field brooadcaster as used in Hermetic Agriculture). Then the energy generated by the working in the temple and at the altar would be broadcast from the mandala on the front of the Altar. Thats what it felt like with the Solar one. I suppose in a 'negative' aspect one could use , say, the the above mentioned Venus one as a block, seal or maze trap during a Venus retrograde in .... Scorpio (?) to make a preditor / pest repellant using the ash of a burnt animal - like they do in Bio-dynamic Agricultuer (without the mandala of course ) .
