The Inventors of Worship

In the progression of mans movement toward humanity, there are many missteps, there are many mishaps and many downright foolish assumptions. The whole truth is that if men do not have a purpose they will invent one. If a truth is not available we invent one. If there is a lack of heavenly guidance we invent a New God or Gods.

I propose that we have a capacity for invention of meaning I believe we as a species have an extraordinary ability to recognize patterns and in a very deep way we impose pattern where there is none. We create order out of chaos and chaos out of order.

The results can be absurd and surreal. In this essay I will attempt to outline a few of these social cultural meaning inventions. The first theme will center around the meaning of worship and I will try to treat this in a non technical way so much has been written and argued about the meaning of worship that I'll try to avoid the old saws.

The most forward on my list of meaning inventions is the Cargo cults. In the early part of the second world war in the pacific theater in the area of the New Hebrides the U.S. had to move men and equipment to many isolated island and establish beachheads against the Japanese, they move massive amounts of men and supplies onto these island,

Men armament trucks large cargo planes and crates. The indigenous people were very suddenly move into the 20th century in a few months and as the war progressed they were absorb into the conflict of the war against Japan.
The John Frum cargo cults began to surface again around this time.

This is not to say that these people did not have their own inventions they had always had a reputation as being cannibals and head hunters so we can assume they are not outside the capacity to invent meaning and I choose them first before the more sophisticated meaning inventors on my list as they seem to me as more innocent then we superior 21th century cynics.

The locals were pressed into service and it wasn't the first time. Initially when the Western worlds expansions began to encroach into many isolated societies during the 15th and 16th century Columbus was considered the greatest of these, missionaries as he had a holy agenda underwritten by the Queen of Spain.

The missionaries were either the first wave or among the pioneers, but the hard work fell to the church inventors as they sought to incorporate the people into the church dominion and the christian God was the greatest of western mans invention and the most formidable in terms of powerful ideas.

The missionaries attempted to replace the aboriginal belief with the more powerful Jesus or John the baptist belief in an effort to replace the original social system already in place. The results were the displacement of island practices that the aboriginal people might have practices for centuries formidable ideas indeed were replace with Jesus cult ideas and the stifling of their native systems. Sound familiar.

In doing so the effect on the local population of the native islander had a profound and seriously funny result. The cargo cult of John Frum first appeared as a result of the powerful western mans technology guns germs and memes(word virus’s).(more on memes later)

The name John Frum is believed to be the remnant of the first invasion as it might have been related to the forced (at gunpoint ) baptism of the local population into Christianity.

The airlifting and dropping of huge amounts of men arms and material, dropping from the skies astounding the locals, the islanders learned this was called “cargo”(sic).The veritable dropping of manna from the skies was awesome to them. The locals watched in wonder and awe as thousands of men and war machines came ashore,or dropped from the skies.

An entire army of men with enough supplies to beat the Japan war machine. This changed them drastically, as the U.S. started to build hospitals airport runway floating docks and tent cities virtually overnight.

It was the sudden end of the war in 1949 that the cargo cults surfaced again when the islands were no longer considered strategic and all the army men left at the secession of world war two. The islander were left with the junk and debris of the conflict and the end of cargo dropping from the skies.

They felt deprived of meaning don't forget this happened before some 400 years earlier. The islander began to recreate the massive effect by building troop barracks wooden airplanes, cargo boats made from the debris and crates. They carved wooden radio, sets,guns, jeeps, canned foods and even a straw flag.

They formed troops maneuver with wooded guns. A stray flag that was run up every morning and they would climb the flight towers put on the wooden carved headset to talk to the wooden airplanes and on the ground other would practice troop movement day after day.

The priest and prophets were called “messengers” who fore told the return of the God John Frum who would bring back the wealth from the skies and return it to the natives as they were faithful having giving up the farming fishing and other necessary work to keep everything going on their isolated islands. Money was thrown away pigs and livestock left unattended as they believed that the God John Frum would returned to them with all the material wealth they had seen during the war.

But when asked why they would reply that they must have angered their Gods and would only find their favor again by recreating the John Frum cult belief.

The Inventors of Meaning II “ The Wiggy Bible “ It's an interesting process to watch when we realize something commonplace but new for the first time largely because ( the person reading ) is getting some type of awareness a spiritual awakening over something that has been around longer then dirt and but for that moment it seems as if the words were intended for you only.

Like the painting of the angel whose eyes follow you around the room as you move. This means we as a species have a hard wired brain that allows for pattern detection among abstracted concepts in real time, stored as memory images within the brain, these pattern (recorded memory) can also be compared and analyzed by the brain and applied to other meanings and concepts.

Its safe to say humans have an exquisite thinking machine at their disposal. Keys word here is machine. I don't think I have to sell anyone on the mechanistic characteristics of human thinking(primates) it's how our brain works, in very mechanistic ways it's part of our predator legacy .It's the method of ascension. It's logic.
This allows for meaning,... meaning is hard won, it can indeed be correlated, traced. Meaning can also be dangerous but I'm jumping ahead of myself.

The second thing to keep in mind is that as humans we are constantly being deluged with meaning and its big brother “concepts”.( also quite dangerous ). Every day in our modern world we are assaulted by a stream of meaning and concepts which we altogether buy into,or ignore.

Usually the idea structures are expertly modeled sound \ image bites ads, wrapped in simple message meanings, along with concepts and hidden underlying meanings, whose job it is, to get you to buy something and make you think you thought about it first ..

We'll call this a “ blip vert “ blipverts can be defined as the thirty second pitch in which you have thirty seconds to sell your product to 300 million eyes. Viral. Eye candy...... We swim in a sea of data and information.

Our social systems are now linked culture is interlocking .Computers and the internet are now the nervous systems of our cultures. Meta Bodies in essence …. But where did it all come from, does the implication arise that we have been this way all along.

If we examine our so called holy books we find evidence for the predator stance but the confusing jumble and contradictions ask for interpretation. This may be the single most important meaning of the bible that it can be interpreted and so cults arise constantly.

Schism arise suddenly then they're fighting over the meaning of a word or concept so meaning then get convoluted. Other sacred writing suffer from this in varying degrees.

All so called writing suffers from this. I called this the snowflake paradigm we are all different we are all the same like snowflakes. For this reason blipverts were invented.

They appeared with our holy men who struggled with nonlinear realities trying to put it (meaning ) into words, as a wise guy's dictionary's... The Bible and most so called holy books are the “ source code “ of blipverts.

It's is intended to impart meaning to an other wise confused existence, remember we pull pattern out of chaos, It was written intentionally for this purpose (at this juncture we will hold back our judgment for that ). As we examine the meanings imparted to us thru these “ Holy Books “ we'll examine the true meanings and the consequences of the meanings taking hold of our minds and guiding our actions.

This essay will not get into all the holy blipverts just the most outrageous. In the new testament Jesus use parables to teach people and we are taught that the parable are simple stories that impart deeper meanings (sound familiar).

Beyond the words it's meaning that I struggle with like the meaning of Shepard and the Prince of Peace and so forth...like eating a rack of lamb..... Onward christian solder so forth.... .

It kinda got in the way of the Good Message still does . And at this point I point out the driving meaning behind this essay.

Human language is viral in nature, words are very much viruses and can infect people with the intentions of a meaning or idea even if contradictory.

Word can be imprecise and change meaning in subtle ways change meaning in context or out of context. We are and can be infected by ideas. Once infected the infected person need not think any further....... we have a brain lock, after an initial incubation period the word virus has taken hold of the brain and further thinking is not required. Remember words are strung together for this purpose.

The Taliban promise.

All the lame argument for “ Intelligent Design “ are tinged of this. Even though some of the proponents of “Intelligent Design “ are well educated men, their capacity for deep thinking is evident in their arguments.

They're arguments are “ holy blipverts “ so crafted to get a billionary people to send in a dollar for a one inch square of holy prayer clothe. and if you don't then, the holy guy on T.V. Will Die from Gods holy wrath. They are crafted with the blipvert sense that we so dearly love in today society.

But like I said meaning can also be dangerous. Hence modern day cults, with the most outrageous belief systems operating within our societies. Cults who are not held by convention and have no compulsion against bombing you or yours into smithereens,

Cults are designed for the propagation of money and profit only. Cults are pervasive in today's culture. So many that the world is becoming unmanageable because of the struggle for peoples minds by cults and blipverts.

One of the signs of brain lock by blipvert is the unbending conviction on a concept that on the face of it is entirely ridiculous or does not make sense logically can not be explained easily or defies reason. In fact there is a whole new science growing up around the concept of virile languages.

A new field of physiological investigations growing up around this very idea and the virus like nature of language and words in general as well as a call for mind discipline to discern the true message from idiomatic concepts.

They even have a name for it...” MEME “ ( pronounced like creme ) for word virus......the term was first coined by Richard Dawkins the noted Evolutionist in his groundbreaking book the Selfish Gene.(A wiggy read).Google meme and see for your self.

As humans we invent meaning and it close cousin sudden awareness. ( Eureka moments )nirvana from the use of words and concepts images blipverts...this is defiantly a positive effect of blipverts. And certainly a tool for writers. ..But be careful once written once shy ….word viruses has a life of there own once emitted. Think John Lennon …., Catcher in the Rye.....
