Small Rant - Then on to the good stuff -

With the major companies that create home cleaning products which have been contributing to global chemical toxicity now jumping on the "Green" bandwagon I though I'd offer some advice that actually really is Green.

I'm not so trusting of companies like SC Johnson who are now promoting their "Green" windex with their own "Green Label" they have recently created to fool consumers. Their "Green Label" is simply a Trademark they developed to convince people they have been protecting the environment for years. They even have commercials trying to convince people (and I'm sure it's working), that they have been conscious of the environment for a long time. I don't buy the claim that the founder of SC Johnson, decades ago, was concerned with the environment, and focussed on developing products that are environmentally friendly. Have you seen some of the harsh chemicals they have created over the years? All the while people buy them and pour them down their toilets for a "fresh clean feeling."

I'm glad people are finally waking up to start caring for the environment, but also frustrated that the huge conglomerates jump on the bandwagon (as they always do) and make claims that falsely mislead consumers. With their millions of dollars they've collected from their toxic products they are now able to promote on television that choosing their products has been the right choice all along - After all they have done to contribute to global pollution for so many years.

Those harsh chemicals that have erosion warnings, and often require windows to be open or wearing a mask, obviously aren’t good for your health, and are just as bad for the health of the earth. Do you really want to keep adding these chemicals to the earth every time you clean or freshen your air? It can really add up to millions of tons of chemicals poured into the earth when you think yourself and other people all over the place are doing this every time you clean. And where does it go but back into the waterways and into the soil and air. What kind of impact are you having on the earth each time you contribute these chemicals to the earth? Does it makes sense to put your money toward the continued production of these chemicals for more people to pollute with? When giving money to these companies it is further supporting the continued production of fancy packaged bottles, clever commercials that lure consumers into giving more money to them for a continuous cycle of big profits for the companies that leads to serious detriment of the earth.

Here's the good stuff - My suggestion - Use Nature to Clean.

Instead of using harsh chemicals that pollute our waterways, our earth and drinking water, clean your environment using nature.

Easy, Quick, Low Cost Staples of Effective Green Cleaning

Vinegar – Powerful, cheap and effective, this highly acidic plant fermented liquid is so effective, it’ll clear away germs in no time. Used for years before chemicals became the way of the world, on floors, counter tops, sinks, toilets, everywhere you usually use those harsh unnatural chemicals. Essential oils used with this powerful cleaner not only make it smell more pleasant but actually have their own powerful germ combating powers.

Baking Soda – inexpensive and natural cleaner used for scrubbing. It eliminates odors by neutralizing both acids and bases to stabilize the pH level. Add it too Vinegar for a foamy scrub or use it on it’s own with a bit of water to scrub away soap scum and mineral deposits. Pour it down your sink, then add vinegar and let sit for 5 minutes then rinse away.

Essential Oils - are powerful, highly concentrated botanical extracts that can be used in a multitude of ways including cleaning your home. They contribute to a natural, organic way of dealing with cleanliness from applications to surfaces to purifying the air. They have the added bonus of smelling good while you clean instead of emitting toxic fumes. And you can freshen your air with real Plants! That makes a lot more sense than spraying chemicals all around your room then breathing them in!

Add 10-15 drops of your choice of an essential oil or combination to Vinegar and/or Baking soda when cleaning your home.

Essential oils work excellent added to Baking Soda and sprinkled on your carpet for a powerful deodorizing action naturally. Mix in a few drops, before adding to your carpet, then vacuum in 20 minutes.

You can also use some natural dish soap for a sudsy cleaning method with the addition of 10-15 drops of essential oils for their powerful cleaning benefits.

For a quick wipe down anytime use concentrated botanical area sprays directly on the kitchen and bathroom surfaces or sprayed around garbage receptacles.

These Botanical Oils are Highly Useful for Natural Green Cleaning

Pine – Excellent used in the bathroom around toilets, sinks, floors, counter tops. Effectively natural cleaning action with a sweet, woodsy scent.

Eucalyptus – Used in the washroom, around garbage cans, on counter tops, this botanical is highly effective and works excellent with a few drops added to a tissue paper and placed in your vacuum bag to help purify the air when the air is filled with germs. Eucalyptus has a powerful, fresh, menthol like scent.

Oregano and Thyme – Very similar in their use for cleaning, these botanicals will burn away germs in seconds, they are so powerful and concentrated. They are ultra hot, spicy herbs to the touch, so be sure not to get them on your hands. These herbal extracts are strong, sharp, and herbaceous and go to work right away.

Tea Tree – This popular essential oil is not only used by people for breakouts, blemishes and cleaning cuts, but works well as an all purpose cleaner in the kitchen and washroom. A fresh, clean, bright scent with a hint of lemon aroma.

Lemon (or other citrus oils such as Lime, Mandarin, Grapefruit) – Another great cleaner works well used with Eucalyptus for a really fresh cleaning action. Lemon Eucalyptus (another species of Eucalyptus tree leaf extract) is used in much the same way Lemon and Eucalyptus are used in cleaning. For washrooms, around toilets and added to baking soda scrubs.

Be creative. Mix essential oils for a great cleaning experience - (usually Top and Middle Notes for cleaning)

All these essential oils work really well as cleaning agents when combined with Vinegar and Baking soda and they smell good. A small bottle of essential oils will last a long time because a little goes along way. With their high concentrations a few drops does the job well. Certain area sprays work well for their quick and easy use to wipe down areas like toilet seats and bowls.

Because essential oils are so concentrated it’s important to wash your hands right away if they come into contact with your skin undiluted. Keep out of reach of children and use common sense precautions. Keep out of eyes and do not ingest.

Be good to the Earth by being conscious of your choices and actions. Everything you do has its impact somewhere, somehow. Choosing natural options that come from the earth is simple to do and it’s worth it.

    Namaste Everyone.

I just want to add that these Natural Cleaners are a lot cheaper than the Poisons cleaning companies sell.

Thanks a million for posting these. I've been using baking soda and vinegar for years expecially since I'm very sensitive to chemicals. The essential oil tips are great, all my favorite essential oils are listed.
