Rue McClanahan – Golden Girls

Today, Thursday June 3, 2010, at 1:00 am Rue McClanahan passed away after suffering a massive stroke.
Late last year Rue McClanahan had a stroke after having heart bypass surgery and suffered poor health.
Rue McClanahan best known as Blanche Devereaux of the Golden Girls, also starred alongside Beatrice Arthur in the 70′s Sitcom Maude. Bea Arthur (Maude, and Dorothy of the Golden Girls ) passed away last year. Estelle Getty (Sophia of the Golden Girls) passed away in 2008 after suffering from Alzheimers.
Betty White is the only remaining Golden Girl and was recently featured on SNL. Of the remaining Golden Girls Rue McLanahan was unfortunately labeled by the media as losing out in early May. The negative context wasn’t well received by fans of the Golden Girls.
Rue McClanahan was an exceptional actress and gave fans many laughs conveying the vivacious, Southern Belle charm as Blanche Devereaux. Her stellar performances won her an Emmy award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a comedy series along with further nominations in Emmy and Golden Globe awards . She will be greatly missed but will live on through her performances.
