Chinese New Year 2012 Water Dragon

Happy Chinese New Year! It is the Year of the Water Dragon. The New Year begins on the New Moon in the Chinese lunisolar calendar. The months are relative to the moon cycles, and each month begins on the New Moon.

Each month is 29 or 30 days according to the moon cycle, calculated in 12 month astrology cycles. To coincide with the Solar calendar, every few years a 13 month is added.

The Chinese New Year usually ranges from January 21 to February 21 each year according to the moon cycles.

2012 is the year of the dragon which happens once every 60 years. There are 12 animal associated with the months: Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Sheep, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, and Boar.

The Celebrations of the Chinese new year last 15 days, until the Full Moon is present. The last day is celebrated as the Lantern Festival where families carry lit, often artfully designed, lanterns in the streets.

The Mythic Dragon is considered a divine creature symbolizing prosperity, good fortune, strength, honor and respectability. They are fearless, ambitious, confident and driven for success. Dragons symbolize freedom and are to be uninhibited, although they are able to give authoritative direction. Dragons can exude over-confidence, boastfulness and pride as well as show a quick temper. They are active, brave and passionate.

This year’s water influence calms the flames and can provide a honing of skills that are creative and imaginative. A great time to focus on your artistic pursuits. Pride and conceit are toned down, allowing common vision to coalesce when working with others. Don’t let your productivity fizzle. Follow through with action, complete projects and do research to be well informed and developed in your efforts.

Bring calm to your fiery side so you don’t burn out. Drink plenty of water to cleanse your body. Pick up a healthy routine to alleviate stress stay emotionally balanced. Be careful with money. Don’t burn a hole in your pocket on a whim.

It will be a year of growth. A balanced temperament will help you enjoy the changes. It’s a great year for New beginnings. Nourish them with an eye on success.

It’s Christmas Eve and only a week away from the beginning of the much anticipated year of 2012!

If you’ve been preoccupied with the outer world, materialism and ambitions, now is a time that will allow for greater clarity and questioning your purpose.

This is a spiritual time. It is a time of reconnecting to seeing a larger myth, meaning and purpose in your life. What have you accomplished in 2011? Where have you gained and where have you lost. The solstice on December 22nd, reminds us of the balance and cycles of our lives. Where one door closes another opens, always intertwined.

When you enter the inner world, you will find answers by opening up a portal of consciousness that has long been closed by the distractions the outer world has pulled you toward.

At the solstice we are at the peak of the underworld symbolically. The Sun has died, and is reborn. Now with this new birth of light in the world, with the days becoming longer, we think about what we want to grow in our lives. It is the cycle of the New Sun, the beginning of a journey towards greatness. The New Moon in Capricorn accompanies this new Sun.

The pendulum has reached its point of return. We are suspended in that transitional period, a moment of silence, a moment before our next breath begins. We are being reborn and renewed into the world; climbing the ladder, ascending up the tree, ready to climb the mountain, like the goats symbol in Capricorn. As you climb, what do you see at the peak?

It is a time to bring forth into the world what is deep within. It’s a time to consider what we want to create in the world as we assess and reflect on where all the trials, tribulations, and joys 2011 have brought us to. From the ground up, we are granted access to many tools to choose from as we create the future.

As we go within for winter, our internal wisdom gets lit up, slowly but surely, we break the dawn. The Moon in Capricorn will make many of us feel sentimental about the achievements of the year, even of our entire lives up to this point. For now, you are in this world. How you relate to it makes all the difference. The butterfly effect is as present with you as anyone.

The crisp winter sky can be a perfect time to look at the stars and planets. It’s easy to point out the planets, they are bright and don’t flicker. Venus is bright in the sky, seen at dusk, setting after the sun. Jupiter is high in the sky now, to the east of Venus. If you can find Orion in the sky, with his familiar belt, nearby you’ll be able to see Jupiter very easily, as he is big and bright. As ambitious as Capricorn’s influence implores us to be, know that new projects take time. Setting short due dates can be too much, and take all the fun out of the process of developing ideas and brainstorming.

If you set yourself schedules that are too restrictive you really close off the possibilities for growth in the process and it feels heavy, potentially burdening your health and happiness. Is the grass really greener on the other side? Are you missing out on the joy of now because of some distant future you imagine would be better? There’s nothing wrong with hard work, but if you’re torturing yourself and missing out on the joy that can be found in now, you’re wasting your time. Literally.

Make the experience of whatever you are working towards more light, and set more realistic and flexible timing. Keep the possibilities open for enjoyment and get excited about what the potential is for you to be creative. Goals should be about you creating what you want. Take some of the pressure off yourself as it can be paralyzing. By relieving yourself of guilt about what you have or haven’t accomplished, you set yourself up for a stronger foundation to continue on from.

Saturn and Jupiter’s relationship with one another now invite us to consider how and why we feel restricted financially as well. Are you caught up in consumerism? Have you been conditioned to believe materialism is what makes you truly happy. Material objects can never fulfill us. Once received, our nature is to want something else, continuously. The holidays promotes consumerism and more debt. Is that what you really want for your future; more debt? Now that’s a restriction to future happiness, self imposed by your choices. It’s karma, by the numbers.

Jupiter goes direct on December 25, after being retrograde in Taurus for months. Perfect timing for enjoying great food, wine and laughter with family and friends. Overindulging is possible. Give yourself a break and enjoy it. You can get to working off the extra calories in the new year. Have fun.

Now that all planets are moving in direct motion, we can look forward to beginning 2012 with firmer steps towards our goals and a stronger sense of momentum.

Where we may not feel so secure or able to grow and expand will come into focus. By paying closer attention to your relationship with the material world, you’ll encourage moments of epiphany to support you in finding more balance.

Mercury is the ruler of Gemini and is in retrograde now, that coupled with a Total Lunar Eclipse brings an interesting mix of our thoughts and emotions and how they affect our lives.

Many of us will experience the strength of these symbols in bringing an awareness of our internal thinking and feeling processes closer to the surface.

Feeling restless, having difficulty sleeping, thinking too much? You’re not the only one. It’s really easy to get sidetracked now making us feel disorganized. Multitasking can either be a product pursuit or a real hindrance to real accomplishment. It’s better to stimulate your mind and achieve goals with focus now.

If you do choose to multi-task take an approach that makes sense. For instance listening to an audiobook while getting some housework done will get two things done at once, but doesn’t waste time splintering your efforts.

A lot of people work on the computer, and social networking can really suck up your time and attention. It’s easier to skim through short blurbs, scroll down lists of pictures and just touching on subjects briefly, than it is to retain focus. Try to gain focus and show more determination to follow through with learning something worthwhile. Try to maintain consistency rather than jumping all over the place.

Learning an all new subject may not be the best way to challenge your mind, but revisiting a subject you’ve long been interested in and have a brief understanding of could be stimulating. Looking a little deeper into subjects may not be easy now, but could open a floodgate of ideas. Coffee table books could be the ideal starting point. Flip through ideas until you find the one that resonates and peaks your interest.

Pay attention to messages in movies, books and conversations. There may be deeper philosophical meaning behind the superficial layer. You may find messages you’re meant to consider repeatedly show up in different formats. Pay attention.

Although you may be able to cope with pursuing many tasks now, starting them all at once isn’t a good idea. You need to focus on one thing at a time if you want to feel accomplished.

You may want to show off what you know in conversations, but be careful of debates. Check your ego before you blurt out your opinion. Hurting someone else’s feelings isn’t unlikely now. Be courteous.

A subject from the past may come up, bringing back memories of a different time and place. What really happened is up for debate depending on who you ask. Memories aren’t always consistent. Try not to argue too passionately over the little details. Make the effort to remember what makes you feel better about your past rather than worse.

With the mind activated, it can be overwhelming to the point of annoyance. The constant chatter can keep you up at night well past your bedtime. Nobody likes to be an insomniac for too long. Ensure you do what you can to make the effort to find a balanced sleep cycle. Herbs and teas, avoiding caffeine after a certain hour of the day will help but may not be enough.

Thinking too much and overworking can lead to excess tension in many areas of the body you may not be aware of. Your shoulders may be tight, you may get headaches, your low back may be sore, your forehead may be scrunched up. Some will get to the point of a breakdown or burnout.

Also, now is prime time for frustration from delays. Emails aren’t going through, internet isn’t working properly, line ups at stores and especially banks will seem to take forever. Traffic jams could lead to a moment of road rage! If your mind is restless push yourself to exhaust your energy through your body. Exercise will be good for you, even if you hate it. Just twenty minutes of anything that gets your body moving and energy expended will help ease an irritable mind.

Meditation could be even more annoying for beginners with a chattering mind now. It will bring your attention to your thoughts if you have an untrained mind like turning the volume up on your stereo. Instead wait. Begin meditation in a week or so, not now. Do something physical instead. Jupiter is leading in Taurus now, get in touch with the earth more to balance your mind.

Worriers won’t be able to get away from the media these days. The news is pumping out enough gloom and doom to drive anyone to mental exhaustion. It’s their job. That’s how they make money. They want you to be addicted. When it comes to the big picture what can you really do? Instead of globalizing massive worldwide problems, it’s better to focus on what you can do locally, on a smaller, individual, community level. Consider rethinking your attitude towards the larger world picture by getting clearer on what you can do on a smaller level that will have more impact on your quality of living.

It’s easy to get distracted by the reports on the news and confused by the conflicting stories. What’s really the truth? Consider yourself an outsider to what really goes on behind the scenes, with only an inkling of the real story. Usually the the story we’re told about what’s going on “out there” is skewed by opinion and agenda.

Remember in ancient times when someone was being judged at the town square and the town crier would make pronouncements according to the direction of the court. The peasants would all be booing and anticipating the judgment, often brutal, planted onto the accused for all to see. Those peasants didn’t really have all the details, they only passed their judgments on what they were told and rumors they heard. This happens all the time. We often only have a small snippet of a story. What’s really going on behind the scenes is rarely known.

Gemini is notoriously in love with gossip, but the reality of gossip is, it’s only a version of the story. Opinions can often be based on an idea touted as true based merely on a superficial, thin layer of knowledge of the facts. So now that mercury is retrograde it’s a good idea to consider more closely why you think what you do, and how much of the real story do you really know? Just because you believe something and hold tight to an opinion doesn’t mean it’s really true. Is it reality or is it really just “all in your head”?

Many people’s beliefs and ideas paralyze them with fear about what the future holds. Not only is this true when considering idea’s on the big picture, but even the small everyday projects people put off and procrastinate on. The global debt that has been pushed off into the future really does speak to our attention to our responsibilities.

It’s a good time to go over your financials as well as your skills to see if your on the right track with balancing your work, your effort, your attention to detail, with your spiritual view of life. Take a look at your debts and ask yourself how your payment habits and feelings about debt reflect your internal value. As we can see money and materialism is evidently no guarantee for a perfect life without worries. We can though choose to consider how to make our lives more balanced within our closer circle.

When you’re shopping for the holidays consider this.

Life can change in an instant for anyone at any time. You could win the lottery or get a debilitating disease, the truth is you never know. We do live within a framework of natural laws that create the foundation of our reality. You have choices influenced by internal and external forces. You have the ability to make choices about how you engage and interact with the world. Are you going to be overwhelmed, scattered, distracted, or are you going to make decisions that drive you towards a more joyous, balanced way of seeing yourself and the world?

Pay attention to your dreams. With the potential for a chattering mind, it’s wise to keep a pen and paper by your bed. With Uranus going direct and in good connections with Mercury now, you may have a brilliant idea worth your attention.

Bring more of your wisdom into your life and to the world by rethinking your views, paying more attention to details and asking more questions to get closer to finding the truth in your life, rather than what others may wish you to believe.

Meaningful, philosophical considerations can renew our understanding of the bigger picture for your life.

It’s a time to ask harder questions of what’s happening in our world, rather than accepting what’s handed to you on the surface. What is the truth?

While we want to grow in understanding, Saturn puts on the breaks to a degree. Being in opposition to Jupiter, we can feel the limits. It’s not all coming together so clearly. The evidence isn’t handed to us. There’s a ceiling we want to peer through, but the light is being filtered through the fancifully designed glass window. We have hope though to catch a powerful glimpse through the clouds, and keep the faith we can get satisfying answers.

This is a good time to be intuitive to find answers. To know the truth you must not be afraid to ask questions either. Being guided by our morals and ethics will be revealing. If what you’re being told doesn’t make sense, look further, broaden your scope.

We can see this strongly in the world political structure now. People want answers. People want the truth and justice but somewhere along the line there is an intuitive sense that we’re not being given truthful answers. Doubts are raised, as a gift in disguise allowing us to eventually build up the courage to move through them. Skepticism is part of the process of unveiling wisdom beyond simply accepting dogma or superstition and leads us to dig deeper.

People are showing dedication, strength and emotional fortitude, staying devoted to their principles. People want their voices to be heard on a larger scale and to make a difference. Sides of the spectrum are divided yet we see they are united. The shift of balance happens to the whole.

In this search however, some people can feel such strong distrust and relate to the world as a victim. This can provide impetus to reach wider, further, self-educate to grow in wisdom to alleviate the negative experience and reach a higher stance of justice for all.

Speaking of the big picture, Uranus is currently in retrograde and is in tough aspect to Pluto. Concepts of restrictions of freedom are coming up with hidden agenda’s rising to the surface and being challenged by the public. The internet is a huge force in our world, but we can see there are concerns about who wants to evolve it behind the scenes. SOPA (Stop Online PiracyAct) is now being opposed in large scale by the general public as being seen to restrict freedom on the internet and is seen to possibly “break the internet”. Hugely successful Facebook, is being rumored to be working towards restricting internet flow through it by warning logged in users of sites as being unsafe if they are not part of Facebook’s open graph. Rumors, questions, concerns and debates on these subjects will continue to evolve as the public desire for freedom challenges hidden intentions behind the scenes. Questions on justice and fairness practices are emphasized now.

People want to enjoy life, to enjoy success, laughter and feel a sense of security as well. Everyone wants to feel joyfully balanced in their circumstance. Not just for themselves but for those around them. When those around us are enjoying life, it lends itself to create an atmosphere of joy for the rest of us. Many will enjoy the pleasures of food, company and entertainment providing a feeling of worry free leisure this weekend. Laughter with friends is good medicine to the body and mind. Being around those you can be honest around will provide you with a feeling of abundance.

Scientists have found the best evidence yet for water just beneath the surface of Jupiter’s icy moon, Europa.

Mercury is newly retrograde, beginning on Thursday at 2:19am EST. Be careful when signing documents for the next few weeks, and think twice before committing to spending, purchasing electronics and gadgets. Back up your emails, and important files on your computer on an external drive or disk just in case. Make sure you’ve got your winter tires on for neighborhood trips.

Be careful with your words too. Quick wit may not be trip off the tongue so easily. Do you want to put your foot in your mouth? Try to take it a bit slower. In the spirit of the weekend as well, jovial drinking can lead to an embarrassment. In the mood to gossip? Be careful what you say and to whom.

Some people will be leaning towards spending money to show off and impress others. Think twice. Save for a rainy day. Black Friday kicks off a weekend of deals, but be sure you’re really getting a deal, and make sure you have time to make returns. Read the fine print.

It’s a good time to take notes to re-read later on subjects of interest. Any philosophical ideas that come to mind should be noted and explored further for the joy of expanding your range of wisdom. Expand your consciousness with meditation this weekend. It’s a great time to start a new practice and focus on gratitude and abundance will do you well.

Juniper, clove, nutmeg, pine and sage are great choices for incense to use over the next month.

When we look at the bigger picture, there’s always something we can attach to that will be stressful. The current socio-political climate is strong in the news, and many want to escape or have an outlet. Anger and resentment over opposing viewpoints can escalate. It’s not surprising to see conspiracy theories mixed with reality leading to confusion. It’s also not surprising to see people using social networks as an outlet for their anger and pent up energy lashing out at others. Remember there are feelings on the other side of the wire. What you say changes the consciousness of others, try to be lighter, expansive and open minded. If there is a stubborn wall of opposition, let it go.

The wiser choice is to take a step back and direct that energy towards learning more. We can all live in a small bubble that we believe is the truth, but in reality we all have limited knowledge. The more knowledge you are able to bring together, the more informed your opinions, actions and reactions can be directed towards improving understanding to those you encounter.

What really is the truth? Is it subjective? Is it merely opinion? Ask questions and uncover what’s hidden. The potential for transforming perceptions is strong now. Start with your own. Forcing opinions on others can be discomforting. Find ways to inform without preaching. Be open to listening and forming opinions that are just and balanced. Biases are stubborn attempts to be right. By allowing yourself humility and room to explore the truth honestly an awakening is just around the corner.

The Moon is shining bright in the sky as ever. You may have also noticed another bright light in the sky near the moon; that’s Jupiter.

Jupiter has been in Taurus for many moons, bringing with it a growing appreciation and understanding of the natural world and what we associate with it, materialism.

We also see Jupiter in Taurus can point to the abundance or excess we see in terms of money. It is no secret that too much in the hands of the rulers can create an imbalance. We see that Pluto in Capricorn, also and earth sign, indicates a broader, deeper need for transformation in this area of our lives. The convoluted, and encompassing complexities of financial world affairs is only one part of the picture.

There’s also a more personalized gift Jupiter in Taurus bestows upon us to enjoy the season and with the Full Moon emphasizing our attention here, we can relate to the natural cycles around us more deeply.

This Full Moon indicates a time to enjoy the world around you here and now, and to bring attention to your senses. How do you feel in your physical body and environment? Pay attention to the sights, scents, temperatures and sounds.

In these days of November, we often see them as grey and dull, but there’s actually still a lot of color and life all around us. If you can get out to the park to lie in the leaves and have the warm sun on your skin, breathing in the fresh air, you’ll get reacquainted in no time.

The weather is still quite nice in many area’s. Some tree’s still have orange, red and gold leaves. Raking the leaves is a great way to connect to the earth. Pick a few of your favorite leaves to bring the earth element inside. If you don’t have a sacred space, a small table with a few leaves is a good start to reconnect to that sacredness in nature. You may also like adding a few of your favorite stones to symbolize the earth and feeling more grounded.

Burn natural incense to add to the experience. Juniper is a good choice corresponding to Jupiter.

Some plants associated with Jupiter are anise, almond, clove, cypress, dandelion, fig, flax, hyssop, juniper, maple, mullein, nutmeg, oak, olive, poplar, sarsaparilla, vervain. For Taurus you may enjoy apple, cardamom, lilac, magnolia, oakmoss, patchouli, rose thyme, vanilla, and violet.

Taurus rules the throat, so a good practice to feel more in touch with your body and soul is to sing the most beautiful songs in the shower, loudly, boldly. Songs of love and adoration of life will be moving.

Drinking warm, fragrant herbal tea’s under the moonlight, staring into the heavens will bring you to a renewed awareness of your place in the world. You won’t regret giving yourself that extra, deserved time to observe and be present. Tea will also soothe the throat. It’s best to be preventative now in terms of health.

This is a good time to pay attention to your bank balance. Set up an easy plan to stay organized with your income and expenses. Spending on necessities will make you feel better than spending frivolously. Do allow yourself some room for enjoyment. Perhaps a piece of art, home decor or a new outfit will do you well, but only if it’s functional and will stand the test of time.

If you have a hunch on a business idea, trust it. Brainstorm on it, write down related ideas, and see where it takes you. Use expansive thinking to your advantage, and keep track of the details before you forget them.

Have open-minded philosophical discussions with your partner. Opening up, getting to know each other better will be warming. Enjoy laughter together. Get outside, explore new ideas and spaces.

Mars is inching away from Leo and will enter Virgo late in the evening. It will be bittersweet for Mars to leave fiery Leo to enter new territory. It is a great time to tie up loose ends. Ensure you are organized and ready for the work ahead.

Have extra food stuffs put away for the harsher days. Get the wood ready for your furnace.

Many of us will feel more reserved and in our own bubble, taking things a bit slower. More sleeping, reading, lounging, listening to music, will all be good for you, along with good, wholesome, nourishing food. Walks, watering the house plants, sitting outside taking in the scenery will do you just fine. Honing in on your skills of observation will be rewarding. Find time to toil and time to chill without going extreme in either direction, for best results.

Interested in traveling? Plan for your future getaway by collecting brochures and doing your research. The most beautiful places will be appealing, as well as those that are stimulating to your intellect. Appreciation of historical design to modern architecture will be tantalizing factors to consider.

For those who unfortunately have a hot temper, be cautious. The Full Moon has been known to raise a bit of lunacy and personal reactions can vary. The Taurus energy can be relentless for those with a tendency to see red so be careful you choose words that won’t have Zeus throw down his thunderbolt in retaliation.

Over the next couple of weeks, getting yourself in a predictable, steady routine will keep you sane, centered and grounded. Incorporate as much earthy activities as possible. Mars, Jupiter and Pluto will be in good company with each other enjoying the earth signs and will help you transform your life into a more concrete, stable lifestyle.
