In Lady Gaga symbolic style the new video, Telephone, directed by Jonas Akerlund is full of symbolism, but may be better hidden than in other videos except for the most obvious. Telephone picks up where Paparazzi left off and features Beyoncé.
Some of the symbolism is obvious and parallels earlier video’s. The most obvious symbol is the hand signal, some say is an Illuminati token initially noted with significant focus as Gaga walks by the computer with the same symbol noted in earlier video’s, said to be six. Lady Gaga makes a cameo as her brunette self in the prison cell with a look-a-like revert.
Lots of product placement in this video, diet coke, virgin mobile, plenty of fishing dating site, polaroid, and so on.
Lemniscate from the magician card in the Marseilles Tarot deck? Emphasis on power of mind/thought/knowledge, in the infinity symbol. Black and white / duality, light and dark. Our thoughts influence reality, and can last infinitely.

Now that the hand symbol has been used so many times in very obvious ways, do you think it will be discussed by Lady Gaga more openly in interviews? Will it dispel the myths or will she create new ones?
Yah, I didn’t get the video in relation to the lyrics. She’s talking about being in a club and being on the dance floor, etc., so that didn’t make sense to me.
I noticed a lot of skulls and cross bones in the prison cell, it was on a woman’s jacket and also on all the poison bottles, etc., in the diner’s kitchen. But of course that makes sense in context, but possibly conspiracy theorists would allude this would be the skull and crossbones society. Also, in terms of conspiracy theory, something else that could be interpreted in that direction, as I’m sure many are doing, are the black helicopters. Five pointed stars pointing downwards, yah… all conspiracy theory stuff I’m sure people will have lots of fun poking around at getting their conspiracy fix with.
Lot’s of 50′s imagery, which was nice to see visually. Didn’t think at first this may go to number 1, but after hearing it a few times, it might, because it’s catchy. Gaga knows how to write for mass consumption so, we’ll see. I predict it will go to number one. Beyonce had the mickey mouse glasses on in the diner. What’s with killing everyone anyway. Death motif all over the place. I thought Beyonce sounded like Rihanna in the bedroom with her soldier bit.
I’ll probably have to watch it a few more times to see all the details. Not really great for kids, with all the sex stuff, but of course that’s what’s expected these days.
What was with the purple veiled outfit at the end worn by Gaga and the black veiled outfit worn by Beyonce. Is there symbolism there?
I’m also curious about the sandwich. Kind of reminds me of a Madonna and Britney kiss transference of power or something, remember at the awards… but wasn’t that the kiss of death by Madonna, I mean Britney has fallen off the planet since? Oh well, that’s not a bad thing for consumers anyway. When She took the bite of the sandwich then looked in the camera it was kind of like she was thinking something about being in control of the situation – symbolic of her career and place in the industry maybe?
Definitely memorable, but I think I like the Bad Romance video better. Not sure… Artistic as always though.
Could LAdy GAGa be trying to recruit all the pop-talent in the world, and make a militia of singers.. and take over the industry?

I think lady gaga is the center of pop, probably for the next 5-10 years. She is not only what’s hot, she’s making what’s hot.
Britney is not “hot” anymore. We at least know gaga is on or above beyonces level already. There is a new queen of pop for sure..
I was watching a youtube video by conspiracy theorists that Britney Spears was supposed to take on the role of Lady Gaga but once she realized what was going on and what they were doing to her she went nutty to break the cycle and get out of it. Lady Gaga is now taking on the role, seemingly gladly.
