Shapeshifters have been a part of cultural mythical beasts for many years, vampires and werewolves being the most popular legends developed on the silver screen. Wolfman, starring Anthony Hopkins, is the latest release in paranormal horror depicting the dramatic and often violent, and deadly, transformation ruled by the full moon.
The story depicts Larry Talbot being bitten one night by a Gypsy’s son who was once a werewolf, in turn giving Talbot the curse of lycanthropy (Werewolfism). The story unfolds as Talbot roams the countryside battling and enduring his conflict of identity.
Lycanthropy is derived from the Greek words Lykoi – “Wolf” and Antrhopos – “Man”.
Early Werewolf Myth: Lycaeon was an early King of Arcadia, who tested Zeus by serving him a slaughtered child. Furious, and disgusted, Zeus overturned the table and blasted thunderbolts turning King Lycaeon into a wolf and killed his 50 sons.
The Wolfman 2010 is a remake of the 1941 film starring Bela Lugosi and Lon Chaney Jr.
Even a man who is pure in heart
and says his prayers by night
may become a wolf when the wolfbane blooms
and the autumn moon is bright.
