Early Civilization: Uruk, Metropolis

The Pergamon Museum in Berlin is displaying artifacts from the ancient civilization, Uruk, and perhaps the oldest metropolis, in a new exhibition, "Uruk — 5,000 Years of the Megacity."

Featured are clay vessels, masks, figures and the like from the ancient city of Uruk , located around 250 kilometres south of current day Baghdad. The civilization of Uruk dates back to the 4th Millennium BCE.

Babylon's famous Ishtar gate is also housed at The Pergamon Museum.

The exhibition runs from Thursday, April 25 to September 8, 2013.
