Full Moon Lunar Eclipse in Aquarius, August 7, 2017. Solar Eclipse in Leo, August 21, 2017. Weekly Sun Sign Horoscopes for August 7 to 13, 2017

Full Moon Lunar Eclipse in Aquarius, August 7, 2017. Solar Eclipse in Leo, August 21, 2017.

This is beginning of an eclipse season that just about everyone is talking about.

*Your Weekly Sun Sign Horoscopes for August 7 to 13, 2017 are linked at the bottom of this article.

It’s officially a Full Moon with a Lunar Eclipse in Aquarius on August 7, 2017 at 2:11 pm ET.

Mercury in Virgo also goes Retrograde on Saturday - more on that below...

A Total Solar Eclipse in Leo, dubbed The Great American Solar Eclipse, will be arriving on August 21, 2017 at 2:30 pm ET. This eclipse will be seen in totality crossing the United States, an event that hasn’t happened since 1918, 99 years ago! So, all eyes are on the US, and US politics now with the upcoming eclipse.

Eclipses represent a change, a shift from the past, and a different way of looking to the future. This eclipse season represents a shift in perspective, and highlights how ego and power creates our reality - our past and our future.

The wonderful thing about eclipses is that it reminds us to look up and pay attention to the bigger picture, cycles and patterns of the world around us.

Many see eclipses as bad omens as the light of the Moon or the Sun is blotted out. Since light is our most important resource, just what kind of world would we live in without any light? Light is necessary for life to exist, and is highly valued. When it is suddenly hidden, and the lights go out, it catches people’s attention and has long been considered to be a bad sign.

It is a change of patterns in our lives. People like patterns, and when the pattern changes it grabs our attention. The natural response of people seeing this mysterious pattern change in the sky long ago was to ask, “What’s wrong?”

Lunar eclipses are always when the earth stands between the Sun and the Moon. This causes the earth to cast a partial shadow, and sometimes full shadow, on the Moon. Scientifically it is very simple physics. If you put an object in front of a light source, you’re inevitably going to get a shadow on the other side of it. Simple.

If you want to know more about the eclipse from a scientific point of view, there is an easy to understand article linked in my tweet below…

A Lunar Eclipse is always during a Full Moon - the Sun, Earth and Moon are in alignment, so we see the Earth’s shadow cast on the Moon.

A Solar Eclipse is always during a New Moon - the Moon is between the Sun and Earth, so the Moon temporarily hides the Sun, casting a shadow on Earth.

But in ancient times, when knowledge was just starting to come into play and ideologies and interpretations were being born, most people didn’t know what this sudden blotting out of the light was. They didn’t know much, if anything at all, about the mechanics of our solar system so they took it to mean something sinister and horrible. The light suddenly going out with a Solar Eclipse, and the Moon turning reddish hues with a Lunar Eclipse made people paranoid about what was happening. Most people were clueless about simple science back then.

However, there were people that did know what was going on in the sky. They were the priests of astrology, essentially part of the elite, upper class. Remember, back in the day, there was little knowledge shared. Information was reserved for those in the upper class, while the lower class remained ignorant. I’m sure you’ve heard about the burning of books too keep the masses ignorant in centuries past.

The upper class used their knowledge of astrology to their advantage. They could calculate when an eclipse was going to happen, because they knew how physics; geometry, mathematics and timing worked together. By knowing this, they could then “predict” when the eclipses would happen in advance. In the process of making their “predictions” they would get people all worked up and worried, because essentially, fear is an effective method of control.

When people saw that the priests were right about when the eclipses would happen, the people were in awe of these predictions and thought the priests had special powers and were connected to the gods. Some even pretended to control the eclipses, as if they were making the eclipse happen at their will, which had the lowly peasant believe these astrology priests as psychic prophets, even powerful gods, which worked to the priests advantage. This helped make the elite astrologers seem higher and powerfully above the peasants, so these citizens would turn to the “spiritual” leaders, and of course give money to the temples. Chaching! It worked great for the elite to make more money, lots of money, and keep the sways of the masses at their fingertips! There was nothing psychic about their prophecies, they were simply aware of mathematics. Essentially they were false prophets, pulling the wool over people’s eyes and making big profits in the process.

Of course as we know, the world is made up of all kinds of people. Some have good intentions, while others are interested mostly in power, fame and money as a means of generating more influence and power for themselves. Selfish and self-centered people will do whatever it takes for power, and may do unethical things to get the power they want. We know that for thousands of years the hierarchy of society has been designed so that those at the top of the pyramid of things, get to make all the rules and propagate ideas about reality that the common folk believe.

The current astrological atmosphere speaks strongly and broadly to a challenge to authority and authoritarianism.

History has shown us time and again that the elite have always wanted to keep the common peasants ignorant to maintain that level of order, from the top down. There has long been a divide between the upper and lower classes in societies, intentionally designed as such so the elite could maintain their power and control. Making the decisions and laws that the lower class would have to abide by, or else suffer the consequences, is an effective way of creating a structure that allows those at the top to be untouchable and maintain vast power.

It’s not really any different these days. The struggle for power and dominance remains. Politics and corporate powers are always vying for top spot. Speaking of burning books, it’s done a bit differently in these times. These days mainstream news just simply ignores information they don’t want the public to think about, and pushes specific points of view to create sensationalist headlines and draw attention towards topics they want people to think about. The narrative provided essentially programs people’s minds. When the news focuses on a specific topic and sensationalizes it, millions of people have that topic on their minds. It is no secret that the media has the power to sway the minds of millions in whatever way they choose to direct the narrative. It’s the same approach of maintaining power over the people as always, it’s just that the subject matter changes over time and becomes more sophisticated.

Why am I talking about all this for eclipse season? In astrology we can't simply isolate certain aspects in the chart, like the Full Moon in Aquarius, and speak only to that. The entire chart must be considered for the overall atmosphere, and the powerful, long term transits and aspects have a strong impact on what's to be discussed.

As we know what’s been happening with Pluto and Jupiter at odds, the media and politics, the elite ruling class and authoritarianism are in the cross hairs. They are in near exact square since August 4th, last week! These are big players and astrologically speaking they have significant influence. Remember also that last week I mentioned Jupiter as King of the gods. Jupiter speaks exponentially to biases and a need for truth, while Pluto speaks to political and corporate power. It’s no surprise that things have been playing out as they have on the world stage.

Eclipse season brings more attention to secrets being exposed.

With Uranus retrograde as well, people at the grassroots level want to know what’s going on behind the scenes that affects their lives. People want to rethink who they are in relation to the structures of society. Lots of revelations can lead to a revolution.

In general, Uranus retrograde in Aries also signifies more people experiencing an identity crisis.

The obvious perspective on the upcoming eclipse in Leo crossing the U.S. is about an outward, perhaps Kingly figure, a personality, famous on the world stage, politically and media oriented… Most would obviously say Donald Trump, of course. But what is a less obvious focus, but certainly pertinent for eclipses, is the hidden hand of power and leadership we don't really know much about, that pulls the strings behind the scenes.

The power structure and long-standing organized system of power behind the scenes is just as important as what we see on the surface with this eclipse season. And this is going to become more obvious as we move forward in the coming months. This eclipse season kicks it all off. What’s really been going on behind the scenes for the past 99 years since the last time this happened in 1918?

Investigative journalism by the people at the grassroots level is gaining a lot of traction these days. Trust in the political process and corporate powers that be is coming into question more every day.

Aquarius represents thought and information, hope for the future, and groups of people working towards mutual goals for humanity. This Full Moon in Aquarius standing across from the Sun and Mars in Leo, symbolically says a lot about the state of people’s minds and the role of ego in our behaviors and approach to life. It asks, “Who am I really and what hopes do I have to create a better future?”

People want freedom and a different future, a better future, but there is a lot of messiness going on with power structures of our society that gets people all worked up, intentionally so.

Mars and the Sun close together in Leo these days speaks highly of lots of drama, egos and strong expressions of warrior posturing and rhetoric. Politics and the media powers are also at each others throats because they want to hold onto power and take the lead for their side of the equation. We are witnessing yet another battle for power and as we have seen, a lot of people get caught up in the drama, fighting for their side to win.

As we enter into this eclipse season now, we can expect that there will be a lot of differences that get expressed as people acknowledge the reality we have been creating.

The Solar Eclipse in Leo happens with a New Moon in Leo, representing a doing away with the old and entering into a new phase. This speaks to leadership changes, and power shifts. Remember, Leo is largely about leadership, power and ego, which stands out significantly now, especially with Jupiter and Pluto strongly at odds.

Leo is also about creative talents, so for those of you with the urge to create and express yourself, you're likely to go through a transformative process over the next few weeks.

Also important to note is that the North Node is also in Leo, which represents a major destiny point in astrology. This eclipse season, astrologically speaking, symbolizes a shift towards creating a new future.

I’m going to write more about the eclipses during this 2 week window, so come back and visit for more.

We also have Mercury going retrograde at the end of this week, smack dab in the middle of eclipse season.

Mercury officially goes retrograde in Virgo on Saturday, August 12, 2017 at 9:00 pm ET.

This represents a change in how we think and do things. Practical ideas followed by practical actions are required to make real changes. With Mercury retrograde we will need to go back to the drawing board to come up with different solutions. Looking at the old way of thinking, our lifestyles and how we’ve done things, we’ll recognize what hasn’t been working.

This will be an important time to assess your way of life. Are you making it what you really want it to be? What have you been working toward? It’s time to think differently and change course.

Those who have addictions or compulsions can find value during Mercury retrograde to change habits and patterns. The eclipse season could add much self discovery of your personality and revelations that can change your life.

Issues with currency, processes, transactions and the functionality of technology and money could be a concern. Paying closer attention to your financial accounting is recommended during Mercury retrograde in Virgo.

The Eclipse season will bring on many revelations and changes in our lives. The future is ours to create. By becoming more conscious of what’s going on behind the scenes, we will all play a part in creating a different future. “All the world is a stage”...

Of course, I have lots more to say, so follow me on social networks. I will be tweeting thoughts as they arise, and will be writing more during this eclipse season. Come back for more.
